hmmmm :thinking I hate betting on the FA Cup, such a lottery, but looking down these fixtures, there are a couple of interesting games that stand out....

Milton Keynes vs QPR. What does the FA Cup mean to QPR? Hardly the glory of play the big boys, as they're meeting them week in, week out now. Milton Keynes are well capable of finding the net and they possess a healthy goal difference. The average 2.5 odds are far too tight for what is a league one side, but 2.9 is available at a few bookies.

Everton vs Tamworth. Moyes will no doubt field a weakened team against Tamworth. How seriously will Everton take this match on the night? Will the mix of youth and bit-part players struggle to motivate themselves to play against a lowly conference team? What we usually witness is the underdog forcing the play at some point and sometimes coming away with a conciliation goal. The BTS isn't showing much value, but the AH is offering some nice odds, especially if you think Tamworth might nick a goal against an unbalanced side. On the AH we have +1.25 @ 4.25 and +2.25 @ over evens. That's a decent offering in my opinion.

Coventry vs Southampton. Coventry are fighting a relegation battle and I'm fairly sure they have little appetite for competing in this competition. The less games the better - much like QPR! Value is questionable, given Southampton's sticky form, but I think a cup competition should offer Southampton more freedom to take risks. They are still available at over evens with a few bookies.

Reading vs Stevenage. This could be a goal fest! So BTS @ just under evens could form a nice combination bet.

Swindon vs Wigan. Again a recurring theme, how much does the potential relegation team what this game? I doubt Martinez will want to field his key men and risk injuries. The Swindon team knows how to find the net more than once in the game at home, so I see good value in backing Swindon at over 3.0.

Agree with Gavster than team news and motivation will be crucial.

I'm going to look at Spurs v Cheltenham. Cheltenham are pretty tight at the back and a Spurs side weakened up front might just have trouble breaking them down. It's a long shot but if Spurs don't take this seriously I can see Cheltenham holding out for a while and doing credibly, even if the unthinkable might be beyond them! Cheltenham +1.5 is around 7/4 with BET365 for small stakes *if* Spurs field the kids.

I'd be interested in the Cov/Soton teams news, as i think the opposite to Gav. Coventry just won 2 & had a tight defeat to West Ham, do they want to lose that momentum. I wouldnt rule them out.

interesting point is whos got midweek fixtures the week after. Not got the wednesday games up on BBC yet but these are the tuesdays:

    Carling Cup
    Crystal Palace v Cardiff, SF, L1, 20:00
    npower League One
    Sheffield Utd v Yeovil, 19:45
    Npower League Two
    Hereford v Bristol Rovers, 19:45
    Johnstone's Paint Trophy
    Barnet v Swindon, SF, L1, 19:45

Milton Keynes have the week off after the game - as do QPR.

I see what you mean about Swindon though, playing just two days later in the Carling Cup. That's pissed on my corn flakes that has! Erm... but thinking about it, which one is likely to bring the most funding via TV rights? If they force a draw or win against Wigan, there will certainly be more funding via that route.

Everton play four days after their tie with Tamworth, whereas Tamworth have the week off.

    All info available at soccerway.

Swindon (I'm told by colleagues) are taking the JPT seriously now they're only a step from the final. That may or may not have a bearing on the FA Cup, but Swindon have a big squad for the level. My guess is they could cope with both the FA Cup and JPT games, especially as the JPT is two legs, and their second string 'should' see off Barnet. Having said that, I think the price on Swindon is too short unless Wigan put out a weakened side.

I think Bristol City are overpriced away to Crawley. Crawley have wobbled as of late and Bristol City have just put 2 good wins under their belt. Although Crawley are generally good at home i was surprised to see them favourites. The 21/10 on Bristol City is worth a punt.

I don't 'literally' hate it, it's the ball ache of guessing which outsider is going to be the surprise. You can always guarantee it's the one you didn't pick!

I don't know anything about Oldham, but looking their XI up on Soccerbase they've all played a significant number of games this season so I assume it's their strongest side.

My beans are duly chilled Gavster!

Ironically enough,I DO hate betting on the cup and therefore dont...but because I beleive there is little value to be had and what value there is,is difficult to spot,
Most of my short-term soccer bets are on outsiders but over the last 10 years or so I was under the impression(perhaps I am wrong)that the cup games go to form MORE OFTEN than league games, but the favourites' odds reflect this, hence no value.

If I have read your post correctly,it seems you also struggle in the cup, thus bearing this out.
If I beleived the games were "more unpredictable"than league games,I,personally,WOULD tend to happily bet on ALL the outsiders!
Apart from anything else it would make Sky Soccer Saturday +a bottle of Magners much more interesting.

I wish you the best of luck this weekend Gavster:)

A draw would mean a replay, which would allow Suarez back a prem game early...Spurs at home. Not the worst result, a draw tonight.
