I can't even say this time around that I've read a paper that has bigged up Englands chances and I'm quite suprised to see that wee outburst from Keggers:lol
And as for that Charity game I think most English footy fans would be cringing at that, a load of B list celebs carrying on like they had actually achieved something.

As ODM mentions most English fans know we are shite but at least we are in the finals to get knocked down:wink

They are 15-1 now-says it all....though the bookies still claim that an England win would hurt them!

Possibly down to their concessions. I know some are offering money back on whoever you've backed if England win, plus Ladbrokes and WHill had price boosts and I think Paddy Power offered double odds for new accounts. All of which takes money off the profit margin.

Ok. I didn't mean to have a rant as i was only really asking a question but re-reading my post it does sort of come over as that :unsure

I think the FA listened to the fans comments about foreign managers but everything fell at the wrong time and couldn't give the job to Rednapp. Everything also seems to have happened at the wrong time for Hodgson but only results will tell.

Colbro - If you think you learnt a lesson from us in 1978 i think you need to wake up and read the press from the last 33 years cause there is no way you learnt feck all !!!!! I don't buy papers anymore because they do sway your way of thinking if you read the same shit everyday but when it comes to football Shearer, Lawro, Linekar they are still sprouting the same bollocks that Motson and co have been slavering for years.

The guy from channel 5 was the best but when he moved it proved if the money was right then he'd talk shit too.

I hope that makes it clear Kegman. I also hope that you are not one of those Scots like Madaxeman who has such an enormous chip on his shoulder concerning england that it makes having a sensible discussion based on the facts impossible.

You may have a point ODM. Memories of 1978 make them deliberately ignore it.

If you are just asking a question I think England will be knocked out in the group stages. Quarter Finals will be a bonus but we will not progress further.

Furthermore I don't particularly like this England team and haven't for a few years. They seem money obsessed and out of touch with reality. They come across as unpleasant people in contrast to for example the Spanish team who seem like rounded individuals with a degree of humility.

You also won't read views like this in London papers because it won't sell their product

We won't kmow where England are at until we play France, the team at the moment is all over the place due to one thing or another and at this moment in time having someone like Hodgson in charge rather than Rednapp should prove beneficial because Hodgson will know England's limits rather than somebody like Rednapp playing a bit gung ho trying to impress from the off.

A big plus for England this time around is having a decent keeper in nets, something we haven't had for donkeys years, thats probably just put the mockers on it but Hart will be a big plus for England for years to come.
Theres not a cat in hells chance of us winning the comp but we should be looking to get out of the group stage by looking to beat Sweden and the Ukraine, anything we get from France will be a bonus.
If we fail we fail, that won't come as a suprise but I would like to see a good display against Sweden and the Ukraine unlike the pathetic effort we put into the last world cup final group stage when we looked dire in every game and was lucky to draw with Algeria and the USA.

It's going to be backs to the wall stuff in every game we play but knowing that from the off could suit England rather than taking teams head on thinking we are better than them and coming unstuck like we have done in the past.
It won't be pretty but Chelsea have proved this year it can be effective, if we get to the quarters I'll be happy and anything above that will be a bonus.

The problem is with loosing Barry and Lampard we have also lost two penalty takers. Who will take penalties for England? Rooney, Gerard, Young, Milner... then we are struggling - Cole, Terry, Johnson ... ? Am I being too optimistic in thinking this matters?

Barcelona hit the woodwork four times in that semi against Chelsea. That Chelsea win was a complete one off

It doesn't matter if they hit the woodwork 40 times a miss is a miss and the ball never went in the net so it was effective and worked, it was pretty effective in the final too.

Had Chelsea come out and took either Barca or Munich on head to head they would have got tatered with no help from the woodwork so their strategy was the right one for them.

The fans shouldn't be the ones making the decisions. You only have to listen to football phone ins for ANY club or read a forum to know that people can turn up at their local football stadium and watch live football every second week for thirty years and still know nothing. Hell, every weekend you will see an ex player who's actually played the game for 20 odd years who couldn't tell a tactic from a fucking tic tac.

If you listen to the fans, you get a knee-jerk reaction rather than a rational one. Why don't the FA try a foreign manager? Tried them - no good. Why don't we get back to an English manager? Fucking hell, why don't we just get the best manager that we can afford at the time?

The fans got their way with Kevin Keagan. Fucking useless. As I said, Roy's tactics don't inspire me at all. I desperately want to be right behind him but I can't. Nice bloke and he's obviously done well in his career but his philosophy is based around not conceding goals rather than breaking teams down.

Also, what worried me about his interview the other night with Gary Lineker is that he didn't seem to know fuck all about the Ukraine team!!! Fuck all! "I've seen quite a bit of Shakhtar Donetsk this year" he said, "but that team has a lot of foreign players in it"

    Frightening.

I am shocked by the level of punditry , especially Lineker and his pals , the lack of knowledge is unbelievable , how they get away with baffles me..

I must confess,I had absolutely no idea that Gary Lineker was a pundit anyway!
Thought he was just a presenter-and quite a decent one to boot.

I cant remember who was in the studio for the Ukraine v Sweden game the other night but at half time they had England already qualified !!!!

Although I think they will qualify it's this sort of shite thst gets my goat up but as you have already mentioned on here that is not the view of the average joe punter but just the assholes on tv

Best game so far imo was Rusdia v Poland last night - fantastic viewing. Both teams gave it their all and there was none of the dirty antics like diving etc.

Russia will most probably beat Greece which leaves the Czech v Poland game winner takes all which should also make it good viewing.

Hodgson foxed most with his team sekection the other night and tbh i thought it was very brave but paid off and although France had the lions share of possesion i thought England deserved a point.

I'm going to place a bet on the England vs Sweden match tonight

Edit: No need for a link mate, we've all heard of a bookmaker called William Hill
