I'm posting this in the techy forum so people like Howson don't come in and say 'Chicken ribs' or Wins with 'half a mild'.

I'm talking techy stuff and gadgets.

In the last few months I've bought an HP EliteBook 8440p because it was cheap (£90 quid off ebay when about 4 yrs ago it cost £2k) keyboard was knackered but it only cost me £15 for a new one so all in all I got an I5 laptop for about £110 with the postage.

(it did come with an operating system which was a bonus)

It was actually Punts fault that I bought it because he was looking for a laptop and I had every intention of giving him my old one but it fcuked up in the meantime because I dropped a pint of cider on it.
If I can get it going again then he's more than welcome to it.

also bought a couple of Thl phones for the family, cheap as chips but very good phones, I spent weeks looking at reviews last yr and although they are chinese, they are one of the better brands.
Bought the daughter one first as she's the 'inhouse' phone expert, she pulled her face at first but now she won't be seen without it.
I got her the THL W200s but for us casual users like me and the wife I got a couple of T6's and I have to say what a cracking phone it is for about £60 quid.

Bought one of those amazon fire sticks. Got kodi loaded onto it and it's the wifes new best toy but apparently it's my fault now that she can't watch the latest episodes. "Why is the next episode of 'enter appropriate programme name here' not available yet?". That's because it's not even been screened in America yet i answer. "Why not?" !!!!

Thinking of getting one of these T6s for my lad, Slick, did you manage to find a decent protective cover for yours? Can only find ones from China which glue the phone in and haven't got good reviews.

The phone comes with a protective cover for the front and back, the front one just sticks to the screen but doesn't involve glue. The back one is like a hard plastic cover that the phones snaps into.

I bought a couple of leather cases from China if that's what you mean Seen, didn't read anything about gluing them in though, I'll let you know the score when they arrive as they are due sometime this week.

Keggers did you put Kodi on the firestick yourself?

You can access sly movies through the phoenix plugin via kodi or download and install Modbro from the android interface.
but like you say you can get all the movies through Genesis anyhow so you don't really need the sly movie channels

Cheers Slick, we're ok now though. They were selling off all the old computers at our place for £20. They'd been in storage for years so i bought one for the youngest. I just need to buy a dongle thingy?? to get her some wireless internet now?

As i mentioned elsewhere i'm going to be moving buildings and having my hours changed at work, there will be hours when there's just a couple of us in the building.....with nothing to do and no fucking internet!

I'm going to have to go against my idea of never owning a mobile phone and go out and get one :giveup

Any tips on what to get and how to keep it cheap? I'll mainly want it for gambling purposes, i'm not arsed about talking and texting, i just want what's best for gambling. Would these THL ones mentioned, cover it?

Slick's the man you want for the cheap phone guidance. Be careful which network you choose though - check the coverage in your work area or you could be stuck with a new phone and still no internet in the lonely hours. People will tell you that "3" are past the bad old days when their coverage was shite (you'll also hear that they piggyback on other networks when theirs is not available but I still hear plenty of whinging about it).

Can you get access to wireless internet at work Punt - if so, you should be Ok. If it's a monitored work network though you might find gambling sites blocked at worst or, at best, someone in the organisation knowing what you're up to while your working.

Oh, and obviously you'll want a package with a shit load of cheap data and next to fuck all airtime and free texts if you can get one. They used to do unlimited data but those days are gone now I reckon.

You can buy usb wifi dongles for about a fiver Punt from amazon, If I get my lappy sorted though Punt you can have it because it's a decent one.

Those Thl will more than cover it Punt , for the money it'll get you any network in the uk because it's unlocked and it's dual sim.
Giffgaff are normally the best for sim only deals, they do goodybags so it might be worth while having a look at those.
But if you can access the works wireless you won't need any sim card as ODM mentions.

On another note, If anybody has a satellite dish then have a look at these recievers..

I bought one for the lad as mentioned in another thread but you can get a cline now this type of box for £10 quid a year, which gives you full access to every sly channel or any channel on astra including the Frankie Vaughn and box office.
I won't post that link up because I don't want to risk having it shut down, but I've been using it for 2 months now and its completely glitch free and one tenner subscription gives you two lines for one household, which means you can have two satellite recievers in any two rooms of the house receiving all channels.
I've also got a few friends on family using it and they're chuffed to bits.

If any regular member wants the link for the cline, PM me and I'll give you the details.

Saying that Punt, if you had access to wifi and didn't need a sim you'd be better off with a tablet than a phone.

We might be able too, not sure yet, we're hoping so, we move in sometime next month and i'll know more then. They know i'm a gambler anyway and that gambling is the only thing i really use the internet for. As long as all of the work is done, i don't think they'll give me too much grief.

Cheers Slick/Winrew. Something like this maybe?....

I've got one of those Punt and it's a nice piece of kit, the daughters claimed it mind but when I do get my hands on it it's never let me down and is a solid build.
The wife bought it me for our 25th aniversary last yr, I prefer the lappy but it should come in handy for holidays etc or in situations like you find yourself.

If you're not fussy about a brand name though you can get the same size tablet a lot cheaper if you buy a chinese brand, or even a galaxy tab 2

Well I tested them both out tonight on the android box and they worked fine, they didn't look as HD'ey as they did last night when I tested it on my laptop but then again that's a lot smaller screen.
Main thing was though that there was no stuttering, unlike Cleggy at the moment.
