    12.40 Lingfield - Murhib 16/1 (365)
Like the look of MURHIB in this , who was 10th on his re appearance last time out after 313 days off , that will hopefully have blown any cobwebs away and he'll be fit and ready to roll today .. Has never been unplaced over todays CD , winning once and placing twice from his three outings. Overall at Leafy he has two wins and four places to his name from 9 runs so seems to do well round here. Looks to me to be well enough drawn and one thing that caught my eye is that hes won off higher than todays mark , added to his liking for the CD i think that may well bode well. Trainer Lydia Richards is in good form lately with a 50% strike rate over the past month along with a profit of +£11.75 and the fact that she sends only this one to the meeting could well be a hint that should be taken. Jockey Rhys Clutterbuck gets the ride and its his first time on the horse , been amongst the winners lately with a 25% strike rate over the past forntight and overall he has a 14.4% strike rate at Leafy along with a healthy enough profit of +£23.41. Given the horses liking for the CD , the trainer and jockeys recent form i think that the 16s on offer is too big not to take advantage of.

    2.03 Musselburgh - Doyen Breed 15/2 (Lads,Coral) - Captain Cattistock 8/1 (365)
A couple in this class 2 handicap chase catch my eye , first one is last years winner CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK who arrives here in decent enough form , was a solid third on re appearance at Cheltenham and followed it up with a 4th at the same course last time out , that was a grade 3 so will probably appreciate this drop in class. Like i said won this race last year , so one from one over CD. Has won off higher than todays mark which caught my eye , and it didnt go un noticed that Liam Harrison who has two wins and two places (from 6 rides aboard him) and rode him to that victory last term in this is in the plate again on whats his sole ride of the day. Been riding well with a 22% strike rate in the last three weeks , and has a 67% strike rate when riding here at Musselburgh so has to be respected when he rides here i think. Trainer Fergal O'Brien also here for just this one , and he wouldnt be making the long schlepp from Gloucester if he didnt think his boy stood a chance of a repeat performance imho , has a 25% strike rate over the past month and has more than a respectable 21.4% strike rate overall when sending his runners over the border to this course. Trainer and jockey have a 20% strike rate when pooling their talents over the past three weeks. Does look a better renewal than last years but i think he can go well at a nice price. The other one i like the look of is DOYEN BREED , was 7th of 9 last time out over hurdles , but that run can be forgiven as he'd been off for 271 days prior to that outing and i think he'll come on for that and strip fitter here. Ran well last season and came second in a couple of decent looking grade two races so this should hold no fears for him. Has placed on only run at the course. Trainer knows how to ready one for this race having won it back in 2018 and has a 50% strike rate here this season and a profit of +£9.20 to boot. JJ Burke in the hot seat for the first time and hes a jockey i rate and i personally think hes under used and under rated. I think now Doyen Breed has that initial spin under his saddle better can be expected here today and i can see him going close if he's at his best.

    2.55 Sandown - Coquelicot 11/1 (Coral)
Open looking class one handicap hurdle where plenty look to hold chances but im going to side with the consistent COQUELICOT whose figure since coming back from a lay off are - 4,1,1,2 ,, that first effort was on the flat but since then cant be faulted really i dont think. Has only been unplaced once in her nine hurdles races to date , three wins , three seconds and two thirds so shes generally there or thereabouts come the business end and at the 11/1 on offer with Corals i think shes worth a go to go close today. She'd have to step up on what shes achieved to date but thats entirely possible and shes in the best of hands to do just that i think with Anthony Honeyball. Shes his only runner of the meeting today , hasnt been in the best of form lately but he can ready one for the big occasion so im not too bothered about that tbh. And the fact he sends just this one could be a pointer in itself. Jockey Rex Dingle also at the meeting for just this one ride , and he has 5 wins and 4 places from 11 rides aboard the mare so obviously gets on with the horse and has a 20% strike rate over the past forntight. Like i said a few could take this but given her recent form i think she can go close here.

    3.03 Hereford - Striking Out 7/4 (365) - Town Parks 13/2 (365)
Like the look of a couple in this firstly STRIKING OUT , whose one from one at Hereford , was a creditable second last time out on chase debut , only going down by a head , with the third a distant 10 lengths further behind. If in the same sort of mood i think he'll go very close here today. David Noonan was on board for the first time in that lto run and the pair are reunited today , has a 15.8% strike rate when riding here whilst trainer Henry Oliver sends just this one along to the meeting and has a 17% strike rate over the past three weeks. The other one i like is TOWN PARKS , who is two from four over CD , and has 2 wins and 2 places from 7 runs overall at the course. Hasnt been at his best since coming back from a lay off but now returned to a course where hes ran well at in the past could spark a revival. Kerry Lee has been in decent form of late and comes into this with a 33% strike rate over the past three weeks and only brings this one here today. Has a 25% strike rate at Hereford overall and this season has a 40% strike rate when sending runners here along with a profit of +£8.00. Jockey Sam Twiston Davies in the saddle and hes one from four on the horse , he rides Hereford well with a 27.2% strike rate overall and a profit of +£22.70 and this season he's notched up a 22.2% SR . If anywhere near his best i think the horse can go well and give the principals something to think about.

    Wednesday 8th February

    6.30 Kempton - Satin Snake 11/1 (365) - Got No Dollars 15/2 (365)
Quite a competitive looking class 5 handicap where a few of the runners could have cases made for them , but theres two that catch my eye who i think can go well .. First one is SATIN SNAKE who has never been unplaced over todays CD , two wins and two places from his four outings. Was an under par 6th last time but i honestly think that that run can be forgotten as it was over a mile and he just doesnt seem to get that distance - 18,6,7,6 to date over that distance , back over 7f i think a much better showing can be expected and at a track he seems to act on. Since going to Adrian Paul Keatleys yard he has run 5 times at Kempton , last time out over the mile and before that all over todays distance with the results being - 3,1,2,1. On his penultimate run he beat May Night by a length and a quarter who has gone in since. Trainer sends just this one to making him the longest traveller of the meeting and he has a 23.1% strike rate over the past month. Whilst jockey Ryan Sexton (who has a win and two places from his 4 rides) has also been amongst the winners with a 21% strike rate over the past three weeks. Should be able to give a good account of himself i think. The other one i like the look is GOT NO DOLLARS who gets in here off a decent mark (has won off higher in the past) and has a win and two places from his 7 runs over this evenings CD , looks to me to be well drawn and should be able to give it a good go from that berth i think. Hasnt been running too badly in defeat and was a decent enough fourth last time out at Southwell. Trainer is one i respect i think and he has two in this - Circle Time is his other runner - but i think Got No Dollars is the one to concentrate on this evening (or i hope so anyway!). Has an 18% strike rate over the past two weeks and does fairly well when sending his runners to Kempton. Luke Catton in the plate and hes won on the horse before and is here for just this one , takes a handy 5lb off and has a 25% strike rate over the past two weeks. To me everything points to a big run tonight and should be making his presence felt at the business end of things.

    2.05 Southwell - Treshnish 4/1 (365,Hills) - Onesoc 6/1 (365)
Sue Smith runs two in this one and i think both have sound possibilities of a win. First one is TRESHNISH who hasnt been out of the first three since returning to action back in October '22 - 3,1,2,3. Was second here to current favourite Here We Have It on penultimate run , beaten a length and a half , but now has an 8lb pull with that one today so entirely possible he could turn that form around. That place came over todays CD which has been the horses only run here. Horse has won off higher marks in the past and coming in to this on the mark hes on should aid his cause. Didnt seem to run as well last time but i think its possible to forgive that given the heavy going and i think a better showing is on the cards today. The fact that Sue Smith has two in the race , and are her only runners at the meeting , caught my eye as did the fact that Brian Hughes gets the ride for the first time , does well here at Southwell with a 30% strike rate this season. The trainers other one is ONESOC who i think also holds a decent chance , won a hurdles handicap over CD on only outing here , was a decent enough third lto and entirely possible he could better that today. Ross Chapman in the plate and hes 0-2 on the horse and whilst not a Brian Hughes i thinks hes a decent competent enough jockey. Could definatley make his presence felt.

    Friday 10th February

    2.50 Bangor - Gwennie May Boy 5/1 (Hills,Lads,Coral,BFred,PP) - John Betjeman 12/1 (365)
A couple in this catch my eye and to me look as though they could give the front two in the betting something to think about (currently Rewired and Hidalgo De L'Isle) .. First one is joint top weight GWENNIE MAY BOY whose only had two runs to date , both over todays CD , on his debut he sluiced in by 7 1/2 lengths and then last time was second to Grain D'Oudairies. On the evidence so far he looks a potentially decent sort and having had only two runs thus far theres plenty of scope for improvement. Hes making his handicap debut here this afternoon and the opening mark could prove to be a lenient one and the 5/1 that he opened up at appealed as i thought he would open up a lot shorter tbh. Trainer Jonjo O'Neill sends just this one to the meeting and he has a 13% strike rate over the past three weeks. Jockey Anthony O'Neill also here for just this one and takes off a handy 7lb which can only help. The other one i like , at a bigger price , is JOHN BETJEMAN , looked to be in the doldrums after his initial 2nd at the beginning of the season but he looked like he was coming back to some sort of form with a solid second last time out and at the 12s on offer i thought it was worth a go to see if he could build on that. Doesnt look the easiest of horses as hes only won twice in his career (from 46 outings , placed 22 times) but the fact Fergus Gillard comes here for this one ride and hes partnered the horse to both of those victories (2 wins and 6 places from 13 rides) makes me more optimistic that a good run could well be on the cards , the 3lb he takes off cant hurt the horses chances either and hes been amongst the winners lately with a 16% strike rate over the past forntight.

    3.00 Kempton - Valsheda 18/1 (Hills) - Jeremy Pass 11/1 (365,Hills)
Gone for the outside pair in this one , i may regret it after 3 oclock but at the prices i think both are worth a pop , as for me all the principals look beatable for one reason or another. First one is VALSHEDA who used to be with Nicky Henderson , left there to come to Warren Greatrex' yard after seasonal debut where he came fourth , didnt make the best of debuts for his new yard when pulling up at Newbury last time out on NYE. Trainer knows the time of day and since that run Valsheda has undergone wind surgery and wears cheek pieces for the first time. Hopefully that can see the horse back on track as he'd looked a decent sort previous to this terms runs. Placed on only run over todays CD. Trainer here for just this one as is the jockey whose one from one aboard the horse. Obviously not a certainty but like i say at the price worth a go to see if the surgery/cheekpieces can sharpen him up. The other one i like is JEREMY PASS , its not often you see Paul Nicholls runners , with Harry Cobden aboard , at double figure prices so thought it worth a cheeky punt for that fact alone. Pulled up on sole start this season and been off since , which i suppose could be a bit concerning , but being with the yard he is id take it as a given that they know what theyre doing. This will be his second run after having wind surgery and has placed on his only start at Kempton. Trainer sends just this one to the meeting and he has a 23% strike rate over the past three weeks and has a decent 18.9% strike rate overall when sending his runners here. Harry Cobden also makes the journey for just this one and he has a win and three places from his 9 rides on the horse , has a 21% strike rate in the past fortnight and has a 29.4% strike rate here this season. And when Nicholls and Cobden have paired up in the past three weeks theyve managed to knock out a more than respectable 22% strike rate. As with my other selection not a cert by any stretch of the imagination but given his connections , previous outings and at the price i think hes well worth a punt as a shot to nothing.

    3.58 Lingfield - Base Note 4/1 (Hills) - Pirate King 16/1 (Hills)
Couple in this catch my eye , last time out winner BASE NOTE who looks to be a pretty decent sort on the all weather , beat Capital Theory by 3/4 length last time but in all fairness it could of been further , looks to be a consistent sort imho and just got touched off by the talented Scriptwriter on his penultimate run. Is one from one over todays CD whilst 2 from 2 at Leafy overall. Has only been unplaced once in 5 runs over todays trip which is another thing that caught my attention. Trainer always has to be respected when running them on the all weather and the fact that he sends just this one stands out for me , has a 66.7% strike rate here this season and a more than respectable 29.3% strike rate overall. Jockey Harry Burns also visits leafy for just this one and he has a 14.3% strike rate this term. Has ridden the horse three times resulting in a win and a place. Shouldnt be far away today. The other one i like at a nice price is PIRATE KING , who was well beaten by Base Note last time out , but i think the fact that Janie Spencer is onboard this time around on his sole ride of the day could indicate a better run is expected. Has ridden the horse once before resulting in a place and the fact that hes riding well at the moment with a 36% strike rate over the past three weeks cant hurt matters , neither can the fact that he has a 57.1% strike rate here this season. Horse does pretty well round here , from 10 runs he has 4 wins and 2 places under his saddle and the fact he gets in here off 89 whilst hes won from as high as 96 could help matters as well. Think this one could go well at a decent price.

    6.00 Newcastle - Phoenix Star 17/2 (Hills) - Enraged 5/1 (Hills)
Open looking handicap where a handful look as though they could take a hand at the business end but two in particular catch my eye .. the first of those is PHOENIX STAR , who has only won once at the course but rarely runs a bad race here - 10 runs , 1 win , 7 places .. and over CD - 8 runs , 1 win , 5 places. Was 8th to the re opposing Level Up at Southwell last time but back here i think better can be expected from the selection and could possibly reverse the form. Trainer Jessica Macey has been in decent form with a 40% strike rate over the past fortnight and she sends just this one to the meeting , and shes done well when sending them to Newcastle this season with a 28.6% strike rate and a profit of +£5.00. Jockey Lewis Edmunds is in the hotseat and he too is here for just this one , has won on the horse before - 2 wins and 9 places from 20 rides - and hes been amongst the winners with a 15% strike rate over the past three weeks. And when he and the trainer have teamed up over the past 21 days they have a 50% strike rate. More than capable of going close here i think. The other one i like is ENRAGED , who looks to be bang in form at the moment , ended last season with a brace of wins , and came back this term after 186 days off in equally scintillating form .. has been second on both starts so far , not beaten far in either of them , both of those were over todays CD and im expecting another sound effort from her today. Julie Camacho being doing well lately with a 25% strike rate over the past 3 weeks and has a more than respectable 16.7% strike rate here at Newcastle this season. Callum Rodriguez also comes here for just this one and he has a 33% strike rate over the past 21 days and he seems to get on well with the horse with two wins and two places from his 5 rides to date. Think she'll run her race and be bang there when the finishing line comes.

    3.50 Carlisle - Captain Zebo 14/1 (365)
A few of these come into this looking as though they could win but at a decent enough price im gonna side with CAPTAIN ZEBO , who hasnt been at his best on his last few outings it has to be said but as a result he has come tumbling down in the weights which cant be a bad thing can it ? .. and the fact that he seems to relish it round here didnt go un noticed , to date hes three from three over todays CD and is six from four overall at Carlisle and is the only CD winner in the race. Trainer sends just this one to the meeting and the jockey who has won 5 times on the horse also comes here for just this one , takes off a valuable 7lb. At the price worth i think hes worth a go as a shot to nothing.
