This is obviously more of interest to me than most but I was taken by some remarks that I guess were leaked to the media that Tom Fox is looking more for a coach rather than a manager and also if they found the right person they would not be too concerned if he was already in a job :lookaround

I have got absolutely no inside info but got me thinking hat on and came up with the name Aitor Karanka at Boro so have had a wee dabble at the 110.00 on offer at betfair there.

I've also laid Sherwood at 1.6 as somehow he doesn't seem to fit.

Murat Yakin may also be someone to think about tomorrow

No offence to Villa, Colbro, but I'm not really sure what the attraction would be to Karanka - Boro and Villa could well be swapping places by the end of the season. If it were the close season and Villa had stayed up then maybe, but not in their current respective situations.

Yes, it's quite amusing that Villa "would not be too concerned if he was already in a job". What decent manager, in their right mind, is going to leave a job to go to that comedy outfit? With the threat of relegation, no money to spend and the possibility of a possible takeover and the new people wanting to bring in their own manager, I wouldn't pack up a fucking window cleaning job to take the fucker :lol

It's amazing how two such similar opinions can be expressed in two such wildly differing ways, isn't it? :lol

Seriously though, what's the news on Lennon?
I reckon he'd make a decent Prem manager and under normal circumstances would jump at the Villa job given a chance but should they go down it could fcuk up his future chances anywhere else completely.
The Villa job is a poison chalice as it stands and I can only see see someone with fcuk all to lose taking it on, not to mention should Villa go down I don't see the current owners spending much trying to get them back up, which is what will be needed because this current squad would struggle to get promotion from the Championship.

There is still 2.50 available on us to be relegated at betfair which looks value. Today was worse than anything else I have seen this season with Sherwood unbelievably only playing 2 in midfield as though it is still 1991. Our goal was fortunate and after a 20 min "new manager bounce" Stoke fairly comfortably worked us over. I can't see anyway out of this now unless Sherwood is fired and a new man found before next week

Are you for real Colbro? You normally strike me as a reasonable and level-headed kind of person, regardless of how bad Villa may have been you can't seriously want a new manager sacked after 1 week in the job?

lol. He has a point Colbro, surely not after one week?

You wont want to hear this but i'm of the opinion that Villa getting relegated will only be a good thing for Villa. You've been a selling club for too long now. Young, Downing and Milner etc and slowly haven't gone anywhere but slipping downward every season. Villa fans have generally moaned a lot the last decade and rightly so.
Villa Park needs a full and loud house every week. You're only going to get that from winning the Championship, then rebuilding.and keeping the momentum going. Only then can Villa be great again. imo. Over 40,000 fans a week, every week.

I agree with Punter to be honest. Drop down, win the Championship (providing Derby aren't still in it of course) get a winning mentality and crown momentum and enthusiasm and come back up all guns blazing. Far better than limping from season to season fighting relegation battle after relegation battle. That's no good for anybody and, unless there's an injection of cash it can only be a suspension of the inevitable conclusion.
They're gonna go down or they're gonna get taken over some time in the next 3 years in my view.

I don't think it will be good for Villa because I think they'll struggle to get back up, their current crop of players will struggle in the Championship and I don't see Learner buying decent players down there when he won't buy any in the Premiership.
If anything Villa's few remaining decent players will be flogged off while Learner tries to claw something back, I reckon he'll try and get what he can out of the club before trying to sell it on the cheap.

FFP has fcuked up any big takeovers for teams like Villa.

Why can't I want him fired after only one game?

I read the opinion of Spurs fans on their forums and they were happy he was not offered the job there. They said his tactics were out of date and that he often played players out of position.

Last Saturday Villa played several long balls from deep positions looking for Benteke. Agbonlahor was playing a good 20 yards behind and not looking to make up the distance. Sherwood played long ball to Benteke with no support. This against Stoke of all teams.

You can all be fair to Sherwood if you want. I have seen enough to have severe doubts about him.

That said I still hope he proves me wrong. I don't think he will though

Perfectly valid reasons not to want to see him appointed in the first place. Not a reason to sack a manager one week into a 3 year contract. He's had just one week, working with another manager's players, and you're seriously prepared to write him off on the basis of that? He may or may not be the right choice for Villa, he may or may not go on to be a success, but there's no way you can come to a conclusion on that after 1 week and 1 game in charge. He's the one the board have chosen, you're going to be stuck with him for the foreseeable future, but if there are too many fans like you around prepared to write him off after 1 game, the poor bloke's screwed before he's even got going.

Also worth noting that both the press and your caretaker manager gave Sherwood much of the credit for the turnaround at HT against Leicester in the FA Cup, even if he wasn't officially in charge for that game.

My reply to RC got lost in cyberspace I see...

Villa still odds against on betfair even though to me they look doomed. The only encouraging sign from todays game was the improved form of Benteke and if he gets back to form he could score the goals to lead Villa to safety.

And that is all we have to cling to...

Newcastle were desperately poor today - but still won

Humble pie eating time for me. I know we were very fortunate to win today and could easily have lost but at least Sherwood moved away from the basic 4-4-2 he played in the first two games and tried something different. It gives me a bit more hope for the next few games.
