Already mentioned in the sporting calendar thread, but as its live sport, thought it deserving of its own thread.

The newest league to return is the NRL over in Australia and it will re - start behind closed doors. However they are looking at getting crowds back at games by July 1st, which is the start of round 8.

With use of Isolation bubbles, the number of grounds in use is down greatly, with nearly 20 traditional home grounds now reduced to just six through to round nine, with five teams – Brisbane, North Queensland, Parramatta, Melbourne and West Tigers – to play out of their traditional home grounds. For these teams, particularly the Storm and Cowboys who have the luxury of not sharing their base, the decision is likely to provide a huge logistical advantage at the very least.

Not really a level playing field, but as with the Premier League there was never going to be. Arguably at the biggest disadvantage are the New Zealand Warriors who because of quarantine restrictions, left their homeland and families to set up camp in Tamworth before moving closer to their assigned home ground in the Central Coast last week.

Interstate border restrictions are also in place so the teams will have to fly in and out on game day and to save money, the 2 ref system adopted in 2008 will be scrapped and just the one ref will be in charge.

First game back is Brisbane Broncos v Parramatta Eels and this will be live on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Mix and Sky Sports Arena at 10.45am.

Couple of one sided games so far, but the 3rd game from round 3 should be interesting. The winless Sydney Roosters take on their city rival the South Sydney Rabbitohs. The Roosters are the reigning champs, so dropping to 0 and 3 in a shortened season, would seriously affect their top 4 hopes.

Half Time in the NRL Grand Final and Melbourne Storm lead the Penrith Panthers by 22 points to Nil. Penrith topped the league table, so the size of the half time deficit is certainly a shock.
    slick likes this.

Penrith did mount a comeback and scored a very late try to get within 6. They then declined to kick the conversion ( which is optional ) thus giving themselves 4 seconds to score from the restart. The ball was thrown around for a bit, but a Storm player intercepted the ball and went straight to ground.
