I'm not one to back Derby on a whim but Palace's game tonight against Man United has got to be infinitaly more draining than Derbys defeat last night in the league (especially if it should go to extra time).. Got to be difficult to get up for a game against that shite after playing the champions. Draw the most likely result - I'll lay Palace at that price.

Leeds are on the march all the way to the play offs, as are Leicester in my view and that's a reasonble price for them to overcome Milwall on Saturday.

Southampton and West Ham are going to be virtually unbackable unless they are playing fellow promotion contenders (usually away) so no bets for me for the foreseeable future.

Brighton and Forest a draw and Cardiff to overcome Brum on Sunday.

I concur ODM. I've taken 3.25 on Derby to beat what will be an injury hit, sore and fatigued Palace.

A very charming Senegalese gentleman once told me proudly that his country was “the land of teranga”. I only discovered at a later date that teranga means hospitality, but it seemed particularly apt, so welcoming was this young gentleman’s manner. I had the misfortune to be travelling alone on a busy commuter train, you see – the 4.50 from Paddington I believe – and the young man in question very graciously insisted on both finding me a seat and providing me with companionship for the journey back to my little village of St Mary Mead.

Upon further investigation, I found that the Senegal national football team is often referred to as Les Lions de la Teranga – the lions of hospitality. It’s a phrase that often comes to mind when I consider the formidable Ibrahima Sonko – a hospitable lion indeed, whose somewhat nomadic existence has led him to that jewel of East Anglian football, Ipswich Town. One might be tempted to suppose that the hospitable side of Mister Sonko’s nature has been at the forefront in recent times, such has been the alarming rate with which his new team have surrendered their goal to the opposition. Of course, one must always be wary of jumping to conclusions in such matters – I have found, from personal experience, that things in this life are rarely as straightforward as they appear.

Indeed, when one looks closely at Ipswich Town’s results, a striking anomaly presents itself – all but 2 of their 10 losses this season have been inflicted without their lion-hearted centre-half in the team. Further still, 5 of their 6 precious victories have coincided with his presence, as have creditable shares of the spoils at Cardiff and Middlesbrough. What fortune for Mr Jewell then that his hospitable lion should be healthy enough to take to the field against Watford this weekend.

I see that my old adversary Victor Chandler is offering a very generous 6/4 on a home victory. Alas, Victor is not as generous with his customers as he is with his prices, and rarely allows me more than a few shillings on any wager these days. Indeed, I’ve heard that he locks his door and cowers behind the counter when the village blacksmith attempts to place a Trixie, but there – one mustn’t gossip. A small investment it shall be.

Why,blow me down if I should not have come across this latest missive from Miss Marple whilst watching the very sames exploits in Murder Most Foul on the television set!!.
Miss Marple I have been wondering whether to ask you really a very, very impolite question and find that I can put it off no longer.
I do hope you can forgive me.
Miss Marple, have you ever,um,been "known" by a man.If you understandably dont wish to answer such an impertinent question, perhaps you would be so kind as to say why you never married?
    Many Thanks
Oh,and I am bound to say that, for reasons best known to himself, poor Victor has treated me with the utmost consideration for quite some time despite my "borrowing" funds from him without,um,thus far, paying them back, ahem.
