The season began Thursday, with as per the norm, the defending champions kicking things off. In a minor upset the PATRIOTS lost to the KANSAS CITY CHIEFS and as KC is a divisional rival to my Raiders, it certainly caught my interest. A marker has certainly been set down and hoping OAKLAND can respond in their season opener in TENNESSEE. Does look a tricky match and defensive worries remain, but Oakland have won here the last 2 years and are definitely stronger on offense now.

Despite their opening game woes the Patriots remain 4/1 favourites to win the Superbowl. Obviously I am hugely biased, but Oakland do look a live threat at 18's

Oakland came through a tough test " on the road " and were worthy winners 26 - 16. Still plenty to work on, but the new starting Running Back Marshawn Lynch certainly adds a new dimension and he makes the yards that last Year's starter ( Latavius Murray, now with Minnesota ) would not.

If Lynch can still perform like he did at the Seahawks, then he will be a great acquisition by the Raiders

First London Game of the year currently taking place with Jacksonville " hosting " Baltimore. The Raiders move to Prime Time tonight ( 1.30 am UK Time ) visiting Washington to take on the Redskins. Oakland disposed of the hapless NY Jets last week to move to 2 - 0 and whilst it will be tougher going tonight, I would expect a narrow win.

Not broached this subject in a while, as quite frankly it has been too painful. I have however just witnessed one hell of an ending to the RAIDERS v CHIEFS game and if anyone gets a chance to watch the highlights, it would be hard to imagine a crazier finish. Plenty of other stuff going on in the game with the main one being the Ejection ( sending off ) of Marshawn Lynch. Pretty much had it all for a " Prime Time " game over in America.

Amazing finish to the game, dont think ive ever seen anything like that in the NFL before.

Its so open this season, wouldnt like to predict who will make it to the superbowl, from either conference

For those who did not see it, the game came down to the Raiders Final possession. They were 6 points down and so needed a touchdown + the extra point ( conversion ) to win it. They began with the ball on their own 15 and so had 85 metres to cover in 2 mins 24 secs with one timeout remaining. Progress was anything but smooth and they even had to convert on 4th down to keep the drive alive.

They got the ball down to the Kansas City 29 yard line and had 23 seconds remaining. Whilst the first part of the drive was exciting. the remainder was bordering on the insane. From the KC 29 Yard line ( Raider Quarterback ) Derek Carr threw the ball to Jared Cook, who secured the catch and fell backwards into the end zone. The officials on the field awarded the score, but the play was reviewed ( all scoring plays in the NFL are reviewed ) and Cook was adjudged to have been " down " at the half yard line.

On the next play Carr again threw for a " score " but this was disallowed due to a ( dodgy ) penalty. Not only did this wipe off the score, but the penalty incurred a loss of 10 yards and so the ball was placed just outside the 10.

By now there were 3 seconds left and everyone though this would be the last play. Once again the ball was thrown to the end zone, but this time Jared Cook dropped it. Prior to the pass being thrown however Cook was illegally held and a penalty was awarded against KC. At this point the clock was showing Zero, but as with both codes of Rugby, an NFL game cannot end on a defensive penalty, so the penalty yardage was marked off and the Raiders had another shot, this time from the 5 yard line.

Yet another pass was launched into the end zone where this time Cordarrelle Patterson caught the ball, but could not get both feet in bounds and so the pass was ruled incomplete. Once again the game looked over, but once again a penalty was awarded against KC again for holding. After the penalty yardage was marked off the Raiders had the ball just inside the 3 yard line and had their 5th shot at gaining the tying touchdown.

This time Derek Carr rolled left and found Michael Crabtree for the score. No penalty flags were thrown and the automatic review found nothing wrong and so the scores were tied at 30.

In all the excitement, it was easy to forget that the Raiders still needed the extra point to win it. Thankfully for all our nerves this sailed over for a vital Raider win.

The last 5 plays were manic and the last 23 seconds of playing time actually accounted for over 20 minutes of real time. Technically the Raiders won it twice, then lost it twice, before finally securing the " W "

Raiders made it onto Sky Sports News again, but not surprisingly for the wrong reasons. Whilst they beat Denver 21 -14 and moved to 5 wins and 6 losses for the season ( one game behind the division leaders in Kansas City ) the focus was on a brawl ( and subsequent 2 game bans ) between Oakland receiver Michael Crabtree and Denver cornerback Aqib Talib. Both guys were " tossed " from the game after just 4 minutes, so it is effectively a pair of 3 game bans. Can't see as this is warranted and there have been plenty of other punches thrown this NFL season, with very few bans. Possibly the best way to over turn this is to cite the AJ Green and Jalen Ramsey altercation where Cincinnati's Green threw multiple punches and attempted to choke Ramsey and avoided suspension.

As you can see form the Sky Sports News coverage ( and all over their website ) the fight started on the Denver Sideline and so plenty of Bronco's players joined in. In such circumstances, not sure what a player is supposed to do, as at one point it was 8 against 1.

Appeals are already in place and there looks enough precedent to get them reduced. This is the NFL however and consistency is not there strong point, so it looks like Oakland will be going into 2 key games without one of their top receivers.

Last game of week 16 is the Raiders visiting Philly. Sadly the season all but ended yesterday, with Oakland officially eliminated from play - off contention. Still a big game for Philadelphia though as they will be looking to win their last 2 and procure a bye week and have home field advantage in the NFC play - off's.

Plenty of conjecture about what went wrong in Oakland, but to go from fancied contender to bang average in one year is a huge disappointment. At the end of last Year's NFL thread, I did suggest that defensive coach Ken Norton should be fired and I eventually got my wish 4 games ago. Damage had been done by this point though and if anything the unit regressed even more.

More coaching changes are rumoured with Offensive Coach Todd Downing a near cert to go and question marks being raised about the future of Head Coach Jack Del Rio.

Back to the Eagles match - up and whilst hoping to be competitive, it is hard to see a decent team with everything to play for and being at home losing to a " Rag Tag " Raiders outfit. As ever staying up to watch and just hoping they " loosen the reigns " a bit and play some of the football that we fans know they are capable of.

As bets go, Jared Cook of the Raiders is 16/1 to score first and he is due a change of luck as he has had 4 TD's taken off him this year, by either review or via a penalty.
