2011 Rugby Union World Cup Betting

This is a really difficult one to call on the handicap, Italy despite what they say have one eye on the winner takes all clash with Ireland at the weekend. The USA manager, Irishman Eddie O'Sullivan said before the RWC, that he targeted 2 games for a win, if they could secure 3rd place then they would automatically qualify for the next RWC. One of the games was v Russia which they won and the other today v Italy. This is the Eagles world cup final, their last game. They rested alot of players v Australia for this and they will be up for it. Italy are missing their regular full back Andre Masi, USA at full strength. Italy should be winning this but I think they will not pull away until the latter stages.

I had a post typed out and I have done my bet, I refreshed the page and I must have not posted as it has vanished, shite :-( I won't give any afters now, I'm not gone against ye but not in exact agreement. It was only a small bet, I am using this game for study purposes more than anything else, re Italy v Ireland at weekend. Good luck.

my Italy -21 lost , did not see this match

did Italy ease off after getting their bonus point or did they struggle ?

I cannot watch tonight's highlights got a meeting 6:30

I would appreciate comments ...like you suirthing Ireland v Italy could be a decent betting proposition

Traeth, Italy really struggled, they huffed and puffed, they had nine changes to the team that played in their last game, but I am not sure if that was good players coming back or players being rested, from what I read it seemed it was a much of a muchness, just rotating the squad, as they have played on the 21st, 27th and must face Ireland on Sunday. The wind spoilt the game but it was mission accomplished for the Italians with a bonus point collected also, Something Ireland failed to do against the USA.

I have been looking at this Ireland v Italy game, and I will post up my views and my own bet later, suffering with a bit of a gamblers hangover today after the champions league last night :puke

England v Scotland

Occasionally the 'no try' bet is worth a pop. With a tussle like this in what is forecast to be foul weather, and the fact that these two rarely get into a try-fest (!) i'd put the chances of tryless game at about 8-1. You can double that and it might be worth a nibble.

4pts Eng/Scot no try @ 16-1

Wales v Fiji

The Welsh have recent problems against Fiji. A draw in Cardiff recently, a loss in France in the last WC. Bookies seem to have factored this into the 'cap at 16. Yet Fiji results against Samoa and SA are a combined 76-10, or a 33 pt average margin per game. I can see close to that here. Wales are one of the fittest and most improving sides in the tournie and absoutely with a shout of a place in the final. North could be a revelation at centre. Fiji are playing anyone without a game so far and will be going out with a 'hope for the best' attitude. It won't be enough to hold this Welsh side.

20pts Wales -16 @ 10/11

Might Saturday, when England and Scotland meet at the World Cup for only the second time, be a repeat, all tension and try-less? You bet.

Eddie Butler in the Guardian this morning.

I went to school with an Eddie Butler, he was from a village near me, called Ballynadiddy, he emigrated to Australia a few years after leaving school, if its him, he is a bullshitter, always was!! England will piss all over that Scottish team Pie, IMO,

Bah, your mrs always said you were quicker than me first thing RC.....

I have backed England -11 evns Bet365.
If Romania(2) & Argentina(1) can score tries against Scotland, what going to stop a much stronger England. Do I hope England win?.....well I do now, cause as they say "It matters more when you have money on it"! :D

No-try looking good until the final minute.

:cry

I suppose chasing 16-1 there's a chance of that.

Ireland v Italy.

Traeth asked me for my (expert) opinion!! so here goes without being biased.
Ireland, We have better players overall, some may be getting on a bit, but thats experience and they are fresh as they have been rested since the Australia game. We have better players to call on from the bench too. When I say better, they are not miles better, just better. We have beaten Italy the last 15 times we have played them, so we generally have the upper hand. Ireland are totally inconsistent, they were rubbish in the six nations, England came to Dublin and needed to win for a grand slam...and Ireland played them off the park. Then Ireland went back to their old ways and were beaten in the World Cup warm up games by England, Scotland and France twice, they were poor against the USA and then they played tournament 2nd favourites Australia off the park. They then rested 12 players against Russia and beat them easy. There is a big blow out coming, and its going come in this World Cup, when time will catch up on some of the Irish players, but that blow out will not happen against the Italians, it will more than likely happen against Wales.
Italy, they have been shafted like all the smaller nations by the IRB, they have played a game on the 21st, 27th and now tomorrow. Something I have noticed about Italy in all their games, and that is the much weaker second half display. They were carved open by the Aussie's in the second half and then even though they won easy against Russia, they notably tired in the last 15 mins and found it hard to track down space out wide. They were out on their feet, 6 days ago, when they got the penalty try and bonus point against the USA, the only score of the second half. The Italian plan is a big opening salvo of power, it will be blow for blow in the first half and very tight. Ireland have reserves (Sexton & Reddan) to exploit those wide spaces when Italy tire and they are bound to after so many games in a short space of time.
So its difficult to see which team to take on the handicap, Ireland and Italy games are normally close, but maybe if I was pushed to choose I would favour the Italy +12. But going on what I know and I have mentioned above : Ireland -6.5 2nd Half Handicap, 4/5 Bet365

Request. Does anyone know a link to a list of the top ten point scorers so far?

I could go through each game and tally myself, but can't be arsed.

I have a fair few quid on James O'Connor - 9 conversions slotted yesteday, and now Carter out. In with a big chance if Aus can boot out SA (Morne Steyn) in Quarters.

Hard luck yesterday Pie, thought you were home and hosed with that no try bet, England scored a try because they needed too, it was a last desperate attempt. Put it down to bookies luck. The Scots said it was bad luck, it was bad luck also against Argentina, there is an old saying, if you are good enough, you will make your own luck! :)

Regarding the player stats try this link, hope it helps...
