Seven Weeks in, so long overdue a mention. No surprises at the top of the table with St Helens unbeaten and Warrington and Castleford close behind. Plenty going on at the bottom however with Wigan, Leeds and Huddersfield filling the final 3 places. Newly promoted London have exceeded expectations with 3 wins and hard to get a grip on what most of the other clubs are doing. Hull FC looked to be picking up, but have just lost to Wakefield and their cross town rivals at Hull KR level with them on points. Salford have looked good in patches and whilst they gave Leeds their only win to date, they came up with the most shocking scoreline of the season last week, by going over to France and thrashing Catalans 46-0.

The Super and Middle 8's are gone this year and it is back to one up one down and a 5 team play off series. 29 game season, so plenty of time to go, but at the moment an established team being relegated looks a real possibility.

I've watched it in fits and starts this season cause I've been preoccupied one way or another but seeing the results have left me scratching my head because they have not been the norm.

The way things are going it could be one of the most even seasons across the board for a long while.
 
Leeds got their 2nd win of the season with a " golden point " drop goal against Castleford. The game provided the best moment of the season to date for me, with the Leeds ( David Furner ) coach caught on camera as Brad Dwyer went for the said game winner. It was a bit far out and it was the guy's first ever successful " one pointer " so it probably came as a bit of a shock. The camera captured the moment perfectly though with Furner looking to mouth “What the f... you doing?.....nooo.......YEAH!!!”
 
David Furner has now been sacked by the Rhino's. Obviously the change to one up / one down had the Leeds board worried enough

Heard that on the news today.
Wouldn't be be surprised to see them go for Watson tell the truth who looks a good up and coming manager, doubt Salford will be able to hold on to him for long.
 
The sacking did not have the desired effect as Leeds lost in the Challenge Cup to their traditional rivals the Bradford Bulls. Obviously Bradford's biggest game since financial troubles forced them out of Super League and would say they just about deserved it. Jake Webster ( ex Castleford ) had a very strong game in defence and did as well as anybody has in nullifying Rhino's danger man Konrad Hurrell. Salford now running away with the trophy for most inconsistent side in the game as they lost at home to Hull KR.
 
Salford have always been that way haven't they.
I see Salford FC got promoted to Div 2 this weekend, If Salford Reds think they have trouble now trying to increase attendance numbers they will struggle like hell the more successful Salford FC become because by and large Salford is a huge footballing city.
 
Well what a game that was, Saints v Salford.
Salford come from 16-0 down and end up going in at half time 16-18, then go 16-30 in front only for Saints to come back and win 32-30 with a last minute conversion.

What do you think of that last Saints try Samoan? looked like he lost control of it to me and I was surprised not see the knock on after the review.
 
On field decision was a try, so always likely to stay that way. Trouble is, as with most sports, the same thing will happen next week and the Video Ref will overturn it. Never sure about them slowing the replay down so much either as any possible loss of control is magnified and looks so much worse.

Agree 100% about the game and when the commentators talk about RL being the best game in the world an incredible / breathless game like this can only support that. Salford threw the ball around a lot and only came up with 4 errors, but Saints were Saints and had a sneaky feeling the Salford fans " throwing babies in the air " at 30 - 16 was a touch premature.

Salford, as we have seen can play this way and are still a realistic threat for the play - off's. Saints have been a bit off in recent weeks, but keep winning and not sure about the rest, so a Saints v Salford or Saints v Wakefield grand final would not surprise me.
 
Salford are Salford and I think the fans were just milking it as like City they know to expect the worst so enjoy it while ahead lol.

This Salford team has the best chance to reach the play offs in a long while but I doubt very much they'll reach the final although it's been shown this season they do have it within themselves to do so but they don't do consistency.

I didn't see the on field decision for the last try so fair enough, I had popped out for a piss as I thought Saints had knocked on in the set of six before that and came back when the review was on.

Hopefully now the footys nearly over I'll catch a lot more games because it really is hard to disagree that it's not the best game in the world when you see a match like that.
 
Catalans currently hosting Wigan in the Camp Nou, Barcelona. Relatively poor game given the setting and at half time it's 8 - 6 to the Dragons. Elsewhere Hull FC lead by 6 at Warrington and London are 42 - 6 up against Wakefield and are poised to make it a 3 way go at the bottom, joining Hull KR and Leeds on 8 points.
 
Catalans went on to win quite easily. London got a bit of a scare, but held on and Hull FC added a drop goal to win by 7.
 
Magic Weekend upcoming, with all the round's fixtures being played this Year at Anfield. Wigan v Warrington and Saints v Cas look the stand out fixtures, but Leeds and London has major implications at the bottom of the table. Full schedule below -

Saturday May 25:

Wakefield Trinity vs Catalans Dragons (2pm)

Hull FC vs Huddersfield Giants (4:30pm)

Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves (7pm).

Sunday May 26:

Salford Red Devils vs Hull KR (1pm)

Leeds Rhinos vs London Broncos (3:30pm)

St Helens vs Castleford Tigers (6pm)
 
Should be some good games as most of those matches look pretty even.
I read today they are struggling to shift tickets which is not surprising considering Liverpool is mainly a footballing city.
 
A week after beating Warrington, Hull FC get hammered 55 - 2 by Huddersfield. Not sure what's going on at the KC.
 
Strange isn't it.
Hull aren't the only ones and the reason I've not had a bet on RL for about two years now lol.
 
St Helens confirmed as winners of the league leaders shield, following Catalans win over Warrington. LLS not the main focus though as the game in France ended with 3 players being sent off and Warrington fans looking to be fighting amongst themselves. Looks the there may have been some provocation, but the scenes were all pretty ugly.

Bit overdue, but a good time to re-visit the thread, with Slick's Salford being only 80 minutes away from the Grand Final. After the last couple of nights games, there are just the 3 teams remaining, with St Helens and Wigan alongside the afore mentioned Salford. Saints booked their trip to Old Trafford with a 40 - 10 win over the Warriors and Salford progressed to an elimination Semi Final with an equally convincing win over Castleford. Salford now have to travel to the DW to take on Wigan ( who because they finished 2nd in the league table were not eliminated when losing to Saints ) with the winners taking the remaining spot in the Final. Having booked their place, Saints are odds on to lift the trophy, with Wigan at 7/2 and Salford at a big looking 10's. Wigan looked shot last night, so they will need a big week of preparation to beat the confident looking Red Devils.
