My temptation at first glance is that Sunderland might be a bit big. has Moyes been playing 'strong' sides in the cup? You'd think he can't afford not to at the moment

I reckon Sunderland have it in them to hold them but another thought has me thinking United will come blasting out of the traps with a lot to prove after yesterdays defeat to Swansea, anybody know if Rooney will be fit for this one?

Moyes has got to win. I know City stand in their way but doesn't the League Cup come with a Europa League place attached? That, or winning the Champions League which isn't going to happen, is their only way into european competition next season.

No news on Rooney , but Sunderland seem to be struggling with fit defenders..

Sunderland are short of cover in defence, with Valentin Roberge, John O'Shea, Carlos Cuellar and Modibo Diakite out injured.

Swansea were happy to defend and Man Utd could not break them down. Once Man U went down to 10 men Swansea went for the jugular and won. Tonight I don't think Sunderland can afford to sit back because Man U are there for the taking but I feel this will play into Man Utd's hands.

Man Utd for me.

United 2/1 to win the cup when 1-0 down. I'm daft but I'm on it (Sorry Slick - still hope City paste them in the final but if United get through and City don't, United will be something like 2/5 to lift the trophy)

Will Man Utd throw this match ?
Might be better for them to get knocked out rather than get shagged by City ( if they get past West Ham ) in the final.

They could just play normally.

They can't afford to lose any match, as much as Moyes may like to. Every game they lose adds pressure. I've backed them at shit prices to qualify before the first leg and backed them to win the first leg as well. I'm a dick. Losing to the new champions is distasteful but it's not embarrassing. Being knocked out by sunderland is.

In tonight's game I've gone for a couple of speculative interest bets. I've backed either team to be winning 2-1 at half time and I've backed HT X FT MC at over 4/1 (needless to say, a first goal from West Ham would suit me) on all of those bets.

Sunderland tend to concede goals from corners, I'm on Evans (40.0 / 15.0) and Smalling (42.0 / 15.0) first / anytime scorer.

You have to go with United for tonghts match but the longer it goes on without a goal the better it should be for Sunderland as the pressure builds, I would have fancied BTTS but I have a feeling Sunderland are going to defend like fcuk and try and hold onto what they have and try and catch United on the counter, It could work so long as United don't score early doors, If they do I can see United winning this by 2 or 3 to nil.

More Sunderland fans at OT than there was at the Stadium of Light.

Putting up a good show Sunderland, I don't want to put the mockers on them but they look to have United in their pocket.

Yeah, defending well, working hard and looking comfortable in possession in midfield, but the lack of vision and cutting edge in the final third is clear for all to see. Need a goal from a set-piece, probably.

Fuck. Oh well, at least I've won some money.
