Following the ruckus at the weekend we now have an 11 race card in KwaZulu Natal today with the 3 postponed Grade 2 races taking place. Saturday's drama began when the hot Favourite Main Defender was abruptly ejected from the sixth race after tests allegedly indicated high carbon dioxide levels in its blood. The horse’s owners and racing executives had a heated row in the middle of the track, while punters also had there say, with plenty of obscenities being thrown. With pool betting being a big part of SA racing, there were plenty of folk still in the big pools and a number of others apparently had decent double / trebles going on.
Punters subsequently gathered in the parade ring and blocked the chute to the course meaning that the horses could not pass. Whislt attempts were made to placate the crowd, the decision to abandon was made pretty quickly.
Back to the present and the big races today are on the turf, with the supporting card taking place on the AW track -
10.35 Greyville - MOTHER INDIA and DEE DAY - MI ran nicely enough on debut 3rd and should improve for that at 10's. DD has been slow to come to hand, but pretty good 2nd last time and hopefully getting the hang of things at 25's.
1.25 Greyville - SNOW PILOT - Cape Guineas winner, who looks at home in good company at 6's.
2.30 Greyville - LORD WYLIE - Drops in class today and chance on previous handicap form at 8's.
3.00 Greyville - PURPLE OPERATOR - 3 time polytrack winner who has drawn well, is fairly weighted and has Rachel Venniker booked at 12's.
