Horse Racing Bets Tuesday 9th February

At the Races has the Evening meeting from South Africa, so back on later for that. Not much for me over here, but hopefully " found one " at at price. Also had a quick bet from the other South African meeting -

12.00 Kenilworth - BOMBS AWAY and ON THE RIDGE - BA is a nicely bred newcomer and OTR is the only one in the field with experience.

3.50 Southwell - AMONG ANGELS - Maybe a shade below form last time, but it was both a stable and fibresand debut. Still has low mileage for a sprinter and return to 6f should suit. Definite EW shout at 12's.
 
Good start to the day with BOMBS AWAY winning at 10's. OTR sadly only 4th, so no Forecast.
 
3.55 Turffontein - AFGAS - Opened quite short on debut, but the drift was accurate. Did at least show some speed that day and will come on for that experience Not keen on the top 3 at the prices, so happy risking this one at 80's. HE'S A VAR ( debutante ) could be the interesting one as was forecast to go off at 50's and is 9/2 on the early prices. Be surprised if he opens this short on course, but will have to take him seriously if he does.
 
Lucky 15 for Turffontein -

4.55 - LEROY - Best effort to date was here on his penultimate run. Bit to find at the weights, but does possess speed. Possible front runner from stall 1 and maybe just a shade over - priced at the early 12's.

5.25 - GREATFIVEEIGHT - Improved on 2nd start and with Andrew Fortune keeping the ride, would expect more today.

5.55 - BOUNTIFUL HARVEST - Bit hit and miss and can disappear in her races. Does have ability though and can't see Pierre Strydom allowing her to coast. Would expect her to get involved at 12's.

6.55 - MOD BARLEY - Speedy sort who looks to be holding his form well. S'Manga Khumalo an interesting jockey change and interesting getting weight off the market leaders.
 
4.25 Turffontein - DESERT MOON and REFRAIN - Debutante Desert Moon, is backed purely on breeding and price ( 28's ). Refrain showed minor improvement on 2nd and 3rd start, before taking a big leap forward last time. Opposition today does look stronger, but has experience of this track and for me, the 50's just looks too big.

6.25 Turffontein - BEZANOVA and MAJESTIC BAY - The former is in good nick and looks very dangerous with a decent 9lb claimer booked. MB has been running well and has gone off in single figures for the past 6 races. Has a bit to find at the weights, but all visits to the track have been decent efforts and 12's in an 8 runner field does appeal.
 
7.25 Turffontein - WINTRY NIGHT and EMPEROR'S LASS - WN is on 2nd run back and whilst moderate lately, is lightly raced and does possess good speed. Decent 9lb claimer booked and place claims at 10's. EL is nicely bred and looked to have a future when winning nicely on debut. Gone off the boil since, but still only a 3yo and already considerably below her opening mark. Obviously risky, but a bounce back to form at 33's would not be a total surprise
 
6.55 Turffontein - AURUM POT - Original pick MOD BARLEY is a Non Runner, so going with AP instead. Does like to be up with the pace, runs the track well and has a good young jockey booked.
 
Couple of disappointments along the way, but the Lucky 15 had a winner, place and NR.

AURUM POT was beaten under a length into 4th and MAJESTIC BAY was bought down. Finished on a high however with WINTRY NIGHT winning at a drifting 16's. EMPEROR'S LASS was also a drifter ( out to 66's ) and ran accordingly so no Forecast.
