My first reaction was he was going to send him off, then I thought different as no one else seemed worried. Be interested to see the refs viewpoint regarding where Nani was looking

Surely he's just going for the ball? Looking at the ball and would have controlled it with his foot had the RM player not been there.

No intent whatsoever, it used to be a man's game, you know :banghead

Reading some of the forums it's amazing how many people think the ref was right to show the red card. Fuck me, the world is even more full of morons than I thought.

Are there any numpties on here who think it was the correct decision?

Reading & listening to all the united fans they think its a fix & they should pull out of the competition. I've tried to point out that they don't need to do that now... I certainly don't think it's anything like that...
It's a crap decision but its the rules that are at fault as they're turning it into a non contact sport. It's all ok saying 'in my day' etc but its not is it, rightly or wrongly they've changed the rules to this & under those parameters I can see why he's done it, as my first reaction was he was going to red him.
I don't agree with it, I agree with you but that's the way it is. Look at the reds we've seen in the last couple of years, & I've certainly seen comparable tackles given. Whilst he's simply looking at the ball, a good enough defence in my eyes, he's gone in high, studs up, so the ref felt he had no choice, simple as

What a nice game. Too bad that ManUtd didn't manage to equalise. Then it would be more interesting ;) Nani made a stupid move. You always know you must think before every single move in this kind of competition. Reputation of the club and millions for the owners are at stake. If i were Fergie i'd fine him real nice. Details are key facts in CL games, and red card made a difference.

I personally don't think it was a red, but as pointed out in last night's minute-by-minute coverage in the Guardian, the argument used by many that he was watching the ball isn't ultimately a reason not to show a red card.

McAteer was watching the ball in this video here, but even allowing for "It's a man's game" type arguments, I don't think there's too much doubt over this red

    What about this one then?

Coloccini didn't even receive a yellow for kicking Ba full force in the face.
