FA Cup: Round 1

As promised a new free to enter competition to Betnod that is solely connected to the FA Cup.

Every player who enters has token betting money of £250 of which they can use all or less on forecasting a team to win in each round. The player who has most money after FA Final is declared winner and can celebrate by buying himself of beer.
[Obviously in successive rounds players can bet their increased pot of money which from previous experience could be tens of thousands of £’s ]

First Round Draw:

I can only see three stand-out potential winners from the draw.
My bet: £240 on Tranmere Rovers

Remember players can bet double by betting on a drawn game and then betting on winner in replay.
Good luck everybody.

just one more stupidquestion, what if u bet on a draw with a team to go through after a replay and they draw the replay but go through

do you?

get double points
get zero points
just get the points for the original draw

FA Cup rules & regs:
In rounds up to and including the fifth round proper, fixtures resulting in a draw (after normal time) go to a replay, played at the venue of the away team, at a later date; if that replay is still tied, the winner is settled by a period of extra time, and if still necessary, a penalty shootout.

You bet on each match: -
Suppose ODE bets Man U to beat FGR but FGR manage a draw then you lose your money, despite Man U probably thrashing FGR in the replay.
However if ODE bets £100 that Swindon will draw with Chelsea in first game then £200 that Chelsea will win replay, ODE would pick up £300 for that round.

im still confused - do u make both bets at the start or do u make the second one after the first game has been drawn?

For example, im fancying fleetwood to progress against Alfreton but possibly after a draw- obviously not going to go big withmy first bet on the draw so im thinking 50 points on the draw. Do i also need to state a stake for the replay if it happens?

Sorry to sound thick but it all seemed quite straightforward until this draw and winning the replay cane into the equation

Seems a bit vague to me too. And if you do have to state the stake for a hypothetical replay before the first game is played, what happens to the stake for the replay if it doesn't go to a draw? I.e. in your example with Chelsea and Swindon, if you bet £100 on Swindon and Chelsea to draw, and £200 on Chelsea to win the replay, what happens to that £200 if the first match doesn't end in a draw? Obviously the £100 is lost, but do you lose the £200 as well, or do you get that refunded?

Guys,
Check out the example I posted on earlier thread.
It covers all your queries.
http://betnod.com/threads/fa-cup-prediction-comp.9390/

I'd seen that thread already, Newman, but I'm none the wiser. The answer may be in there somewhere, but it's not at all clear to me.

2 questions:

1) If you want to back a draw, do you have to specify your predicted winner and stake for the replay at the same time?
2) If you do, what happens to your stake for the replay if the original match doesn't end as a draw? Refunded, or lost along with the stake on the original match?

Do you think it best that I drop this competition.
I've seen it played elsewhere and it is so so easy to play.
Over to you guys.

No , give it go I say.

We could ignore the replay for drawn games , if that simplifies the comp

No-one's suggesting you drop the comp, Newman. I'm sure it is perfectly easy to play, once the rules have been explained, but ODM and I have asked a couple of fairly straightforward questions to try to clarify a part of the rules which is unclear, and so far you've pointed us in the direction of a thread which doesn't seem to provide an answer, and then suggested maybe it's best to drop the comp altogether, rather than just answering the questions.

Don't want to appear rude or ungrateful when you're using your free time to run a comp on here, but if you're going to run it, I don't think it's unreasonable to want clarification of the rules before it starts.

Rc, I'm at a loss.
I've answered your queries to the best of my ability and offered clear examples to cover all eventualities.

In example above Howson has bet £40 on a draw and £71 on a Swindon win = £111 winnings.

Withdrew bet £100 on drawn game and then £50 on Yeovil winning replay. Yeovil lost replay so Withdrew lost that £50 but ends up with £50 overall winnings.

Kegman bet £100 on a drawn game which ended in a Cambridge win so lost £100.

The only error I made in this example is that all the wrong forecasts should have been on red background, which I failed to do for Newman & ODM.
The lady who wrote up this spreadsheet for me used the letter C in result column to indicate a correct forecast.
Unfortunately she used the letter W for a correct forecast in the replay column.
The letter l obviously means loss.

[After posting reply I went to bathroom and while sitting down and reviewing everything in my mind I realised that I should have added further info to rules. Therefore my apology to all.

Rules: All forecasts are to be posted plus stake money before start of game.

Those forecasting a drawn game must also forecast result of replay and two separate stake monies for both games.

Using Kegman’s example he could have staked anything up to £350 on a Mansfield win on replay. But because his 1st forecast was wrong and there would be no replay he could not lose that £350 - just the £100 on 1st forecast]
