I see Froome got the all clear today to ride the TDF.

He looked shit hot towards the end of the Giro when he started to hit form but I suppose it all depends on how much that took out of him, the TDF being delayed due to the World Cup mind would have benefited him with the extra rest.

Not seen enough of Richie Porte this year to make a judgement on him because he's not been back that long since suffering Injury in that terrible accident in last years TDF.

Doumoulin could run him close but Froome proved he has the measure of him in the Giro should he hit similar form again.

Sky have a young good rider too in Egan Bernal who could prove a good E/W bet should Froome hit trouble and Sky have to make a few changes, Thomas may think he's second in command but Bernal is shit hot in the mountains and will probably be following Froome close home whilst Thomas will be expected to do some Donkey work in the lead ups.
He's never done a 3 week GT before but Sky and others believe in him enough to give him this chance.

Richie Porte crashed out yesterday the unlucky sod and is out of the race.
That narrows the field down a hell of a lot.

The tour moves into the mountains for the first time this week and Sky seem to have Froome and Thomas joint GC contenders so It'll be interesting to see what happens there should Froome need assistance because Thomas has nearly a minute on him at the moment.

Main GC contenders a minute or so behind Froome are Bardet, Quintana and Uran which could narrow the field down further unless they have an exceptional day in the mountains.
Mikel Landa could have joined them after crashing yesterday but he worked a miracle managing to chase the peloton down and join them at the finish line.

Aye the Sky train nailed the hatches down today to keep all the GC contenders contained, tomorrow will be a story with the summit finish as you mention Howson.
I don't know how Froome and Thomas will play out, could even come down the the individual TT on the penultimate day.
Early days in the mountains yet but Sky's Domestiques look so powerful going up them there hills which doesn't bode well for the other teams.
Quintana has looked comfortable though over the last couple of stages and might try something unexpected which he'll need to do if he wants a crack at winning the tour.

So Thomas wins the last two mountain stages and slightly improves his time on Froome all the while saying Froomie is still the main man and he's riding for him, ehhm hasn't really looked like it no matter how much Sky try to gloss over it.
From a distance it looks like a good problem for Sky to have when they are currently first and second in GC but they will know deep down this could all go tits up if they continue riding against each other because Dumoulin is looking strong and more suited to next weeks Pyrenees rather than this weeks Alps which are now over and done with.
Nobody before today would have said Dumoulin would beat Froome up the Alpe d'Huez which he did.

Looks like we could see some fireworks next week.

Barring accident or incident which Thomas is renown for I think he can, the current situation makes you wonder have Sky been preparing Thomas for GC rider just in case Froome was banned from the TDF as was feared a few weeks back.
You can never rule Froome out though no matter how far behind as this years Giro proved, but with Thomas being his adversary there's going to be no surprises because they are both in the same team and know what the team orders are.

The ITT on the penultimate day could be one of the most exciting days of the TDF ever the way things are going.

Off we go again tomorrow up the mountans for the next few days.
No overall change at the top of GC but this is where Froome and Dumoulin and possibly Bardet will have to start making a move if they want to close in on Thomas before the Individual time trial on Saturday.

Be interesting to see if Froome can repeat what he did in the Giro when he fcuked off from about 80km out up the Finistre and sank Simon Yates who had a 3 minute lead on him before the stage but ended up over half an hr behind him by the time it finished, because I have a feeling he'll have to do something similar to Thomas if he wants his 6th TDF but will Sky let him?

Game over, barring a disaster in the Time trial Thomas should be TDF winner.
Froome on the other hand looks jaded this week and will do well to get on the podium.
