Both Man U and Celtic haven't set the heather alight so far but the draw has been kind to both but odds reflect that.

Monaco went on my cnut list on Friday night so I'm going against them and will have a small interest on Valencia.

Betting on football like this is suicide unless you know a bit about the teams involved (obviously) but are FC Bate the team I was warning people about a couple of seasons ago? I have to confess I have no idea what they are like these days other than I noticed their were winning the first leg of their last play off game 1-0 until very very late and then went on to win the away leg 1-0.

I know they didn't trouble the trophy engravers but I seem to remember them putting up decent performances against the likes of Valencia, Juve and Fenerbache (I've just googled them and they beat Everton as well apparently ) I know very little about their opponents other than the bookies have them very slight favourites to go through. A they are indecisive about it and I had a soft spot for some of the football that they played, I'm adopting them and backing them to win this week and on the Asian handicap in every game they play if they get through the qualifiers. They are 5/4 to qualify.

As for the "big" British teams, you could easily go bust backing United and Celtic in europe in recent years as they are both absolute dogshit. Celtic have been nothing short of a total and utter embarrassment and the limits of their ambitions should be to qualify for the Champions League, finish 3rd in the group and try to stay in the Europa league for more than a week. Their european campaigns are probably the only source of cheer that Rangers fans get these days but their home form dictates that they will always be a shorter price than they should be in their home games. Everyone (including me) will expect United to progress but only an idiot would back them to win tomorrow at that price.

Lazio finished 3rd in the Italian League last season, Leverkusen a distant 4th in the Bundesliga. I dont know team news, how serious each team will take it, or why Leverkusen are blue across oddschecker tonight but 15/8 for the Home win looks quite generous, first glance.
