2011 Rugby Union World Cup Betting

Whats Japan 1-10 mean?
Speaking to a big Rugby fan & gambler. Tried to get him on here (or where we were) loads of times but he doesnt do forums. Cant understand why you'd share knowledge & watch the price drop....gave up trying to persuade him in the end :cry

Anyway, talked this bet through to him & he reckoned it was the best bet he's heard in ages

Hello Swoop, nothing wrong with sharing your knowledge, don't know what your mate is on about. Get your own money on first and then share your knowledge:), as Pie Chucker has probably done when he was generous enough to give us the heads up.
Just in my opinion the Japan 1-10 a little bit more risky than the handicap:unsure. I took Japan +9 24 hours ago with Bet365 (+7 now), 1-10 available at 3/1, but of course the handicap gives a bit more leeway, i.e.Tonga can win by a few, it can be a draw, Japan can go and win by what they like..... :)

Ha! As if our ramblings on here would move markets. Although, hang on a minute...

Yup, Japan 1-10 is the inclusive points margin of victory. I'm on at 9-2 with Bill; now 2-1. But yes, the cap bet is the safer option.

Bill Hill now has Japan +6 (from +12 on Sunday). This is a bit odd as - Traeth will confirm - in 6N when a cap goes up it is usually cast in stone. Bookies must have been originally swayed by Japan's heavy loss to NZ, whereas Tonga made the Kiwis work a bit in that opening game. Yet Japan played their 'dirt-tracker' XV and, as with most 2nd tier nations, there ain't much depth in the squad. Their top guys, well-rested, are back for this.

:crossfingers

Our ramblings I would say most likely do get noted, know a lad works for a large bookmaker at their Dublin office and its part of his job to scour forums for rumours, info etc. I saw that Victor Chandler was at +11 yesterday, when all others had already cut, today he is down to +6!

Er... Jap 1-10 more like 3/1, not 2s.

maybe worth a nudge at 3s.

I see the cap down to Japan +4 , the Japan +7 still available but at reduced price @1,67

I agree with pie the cap rarely changes in the 6 nations , occasionally the first bookie with a cap has to change and the others set their cap later.
A few years ago there used to be differences in the cap between bookies and if you could get evens you could get a free bet on the points difference if you selected the best cap for both sides. Those of you who have selected Japan +12 can have a free bet if the back Tonga-4 and the points difference is in Tonga's favour by 5,6,7,8,9,10 or11 , both bets pay , other point differences give one winning bet one losing bet , so a no lose situation if you had evens. [ evens usually available close to match day]

p.s I hope I got that the right way round and it's understandable - well I understand it , even if I can't explain it properly

No matter what the result in this game, the bookies took their eye off it until theyve heard whisperings I reckon. Theyve gone overboard on Japan getting hammered by NZ & didnt clock they'd rested players, whereas Pie was ahead of the game recognising the Japs real objective clap Two blokes I've spoke to today who know their sport but not necessarily their rugby, said along the lines of 'dont be stupid, Tonga will hammer them', because Tonga are recognised as a minor rugby nation whereas Japan is not. Think of the mid-eighties when England lamped Turkey 8 nil away, then within 15 years it was a fucking tough place to go & they'd made the WC semis

Also, whether its just for mods, but at the bottom of the 1st page on this thread it says 'guests found this thread by searching Pie Chuckers 2011 Rugby Forum'

Shiiiiittttt, we have ourselves a star no matter what happens :lol

Thanks for driving the price down chaps - i'm on Tonga 10/11 at -4:beer

Tonga 31-18 Japan

well we got that one wrong and the bookies were right , I haven't seen the match , just read the bbc report

message to self " don't panic" and don't play catch up

next few matches and I fancy the Southern Hemisphere nations to get their scoring machines on track
here are the caps

Thu 22 Sep 09:00
South Africa -59 10/11 Namibia +59 10/11

Fri 23 Sep 09:30
Australia -59 10/11 USA +59 10/11

Sat 24 Sep 09:30
New Zealand -17 1/1 France +17 1/1

well done ODM , going against the flow paid off

I would have been happier had they won by 5 mate and then we could all have been winners.:frown I was watching the updates on my phone on the bbc site (delayed as hell) and I thought it was going to be the perfect result at one stage.

Bloody Japan. Played like boofheads.

USA have named a very under-powered team for Aus game, saving the best for their next game that they may see as winnable. v Italy. Aus out to keep up with fellow tri-nations teams... ie post a big, fluid win. Expect the SH rout to continue.

12pts Australia -61 v USA @ EVENS

Yes PC, Thats true 14 changes to the USA team that beat Russia...........but I will not be running out to back Australia after that gutless display against Ireland, 2 penalties is a poor return for a whole game and they failed to score in the entire second half. Best watched IMO, but good luck with your bet, hope it comes off for you :)

New Zealand v France.

NZ -19 seems a lot. These two sides could meet in the final and whereas either side could live with loss, there's pride.

5pts France + 19 @ evens
2pts HT/FT France/NZ @ 9

But the way to get into this might me to bet first half most points if you can odds against.

I think the last 20 mins will be a lot of subs and flaffing around.

7 pts irst half most points @ 6/5

Trying not to jinx you here Pie :unsure

Taken the 1st half bet in the Kiwi/Frog game, taken France +17.5 & also taken France +17.5/+46.5 match points. Also a cheeky lay of NZ @ 1.1

With you Pie on the France cap, (+18) just feel this is a bit big for a team of France's quality, fingers crossed.
