I know most people on here are recreational gamblers rather than serious gamblers but do you keep a record and do you think you
a/ Make a profit
b/ Make a loss - but one you feel is a fair price to pay for a year's entertainment
c/ Lose more than you should
d/ Win some, lose some
This season's Premiership race has really focused the issue in my mind. I've been tootling along making a profit of varying degrees for a few years now. I'm one of those who do keep track (not of every bet, but by keeping a spreadsheet of my balances with each bookie and updating it regularly (by which I mean 3 times per week minimum and some weeks, every day). I know most people don't bet every day but I do. I know that makes me an addict but if anything I'm pretty relaxed about my bets these days and don't have the need to watch as many races as I can and check results as soon as the race is finished. Win or lose on a day it doesn't usually affect my mood (the occasional bad beat aside
) and I don't get concerned about losing streaks as long as I end up in front at the end of the season (by which I mean, the final day of the domestic football season - usually the play offs)
Anyway, I digress as usual. Despite the fact that I probably bet on horses 340+ days per year, my biggest bets are on the Premierhip long term (winner, top 4,5,6 etc and relegation) and the Championship (Promotion mainly). I've already mentioned many times that I always back Man United to win the title because I have a general dislike for plastic glory-hunting wankers. I back and lay during the season so that I have them and two other teams on my side and this season's have turned out to be Chelsea and City (it started off being City and Arsenal until Chelsea became too big a price to leave alone). Whatever happens I've lost a large chunk of money backing United to finish top, top 4, top5 and top6 (presumably lost). That on top of that the fact that Liverpool have had the amazing season that they've had means that, should Liverpool win the Premiership, I'm looking at my first losing year for ten years.
So my situation is simple:
If Liverpool win the league, I will have had a big losing year
If City or Chelsea win the league and Derby get promoted, I will have made a small profit
If City or Chelsea win the league and QPR get promoted, I will have made a large profit
If City or Chelsea win the league and neither QPR or Derby get promoted, I will have made a decent profit.
Hard to believe that after 365 days of betting, it could all come down to three football matches, Liverpool and City's games on 11th May and the Championship playoff final on 24th May.
I know that Seen keeps records and I believe he makes a regular profit. Punter's Atletico Madrid should have ensured him a winning year. Swoops seems to be making regular profits. RC has not been doing much gambling this year, being busy with work and family. I'm not sure about the rest - I would guess that Kegman has a regular flutter , Winrew every now and again depending upon shifts etc. Does Topdog actually put money on his horses every day for example? Slick's not into horses so is he just a weekend coupon man?
What's your story ladies?
