Eurovision Song Contest 12th - 16th May 2026

Got in late (when Ukraine were on). Just gone back now and watched the ones I missed.

What am I missing about Greece? In my books (based on personal taste, not any kind of Eurovision knowledge), it's every bit as bad as the UK entry, yet it's 5th favourite :ohwell
Yeah its not for me either tbh. :lol But also accept im getting on a bit, and the streaming/social media buzz is fairly active for it, and the diaspora also behind it. Unfortunately just didnt build any momentum this week.

Brilliant tip on Bulgaria @Beanie lets go.

Also got Italy top 5 up with decent chunks on. Plus Romania top 5 and Moldova top 10.

Shame about Lithuania but sometimes favourites win. That random 8 points in the jury voting killed it.

Overall solid profit for me despite all the losing bets. See you next year lads (I hope).

Great Call Beanie. Did not think the judges would go for it as much as they did, but not surprised that the public vote went their way. My 2 were pretty shocking, but in profit thanks to you. No regrets in going for Belgium or Czechia at the prices and for me both were way better than their finishing positions suggest.

Great stuff chaps...I cant believe neither of your jury and televote bets landed Jez, and Bulgaria won them both...wow. Younger juries did indeed go for them over Oz - sea change for the contest...and as we said early on it really was a contest for the Eastern countries after a period of Western dominance.

Despite most of my early bets losing (Albania top 10, Ukraine ew, Norway top 10 - thought this was going to land at one point, and think it would have if his voice hadnt given out midweek, Greece) ended up with my most profitable Eurovision in 10 years through landing just about everything I put on in the last 2 days (Bulgaria win and top 4, Top Balkan, Poland top 15, Denmark no top 5, Italy top 5 and beating France.)

Betfair even paid out on that 17/1 mistake 👀

Halfway through I thought we had a chance on Lithuania - it traded at 2/1 on the exchange! But your right Samoan, those random jury points killed the chance (plus UKs typically terrible televote.)

As bonkers as ever...love it.

Was wondering whether that means I've drunk too much, or not enough :lol

Def not enough. I'm pouring another large one thanks to @Beanie

I don't mind neither of the vote bets landing. Those accounts were toast at the first decent bet anyway. Great spot on the Eastern countries swing.

I lost some and won some. Only ones I really won were thanks to you Beanie. Bulgaria and Italy top 5 are the ones I have to thank for profit. 18/1 winner lol, amazing work. Lithuania last place was a dream and a really good pick. Didn't put on everything you did but really glad they all came up for you.

I also got paid out on the 17/1 mistake on Skybet. Couldn't take it on Betfair/PP, hope others did manage.

I've bet Eurovision every year since 2003 and this is my third most profitable year. 1st was last year and 2nd the year before. This one is still really good. Owe you a nice cold beer Beanie :beer :beer :beer

I'm gutted Slick/Mickey/Komp are not here to share in this. Komp in particularl would have been loving Bulgaria and Greece I think.

The beauty of the contest for me (as a betting opportunity) is that you have very experienced bettors with a wealth of stats at their disposal studying the contest for weeks/months, and you have jury finals taking place before the contest meaning half the points are already allocated - and yet still everyone struggles to predict the contest with any real certainty due to the intangibles of feeling, emotion, viral potential. Finland a near even money favourite on finals day and never really came close. Long may it continue. Bulgaria also demonstrates that staging really is everything and can elevate a song on the fringes to the title.

On that note, a good learning from this year is to watch the staging myself prior to bets. Its more difficult now due to the limited rehearsal coverage, but various esc pundits were gushing about the Greek staging being a masterpeice, and I bought into the hype (to be fair, many of those pundits I generally trust to be very level headed about this stuff.) When seeing the full staging in the semi final, it looked a bit of a mess.

Also worth stating, there is still a whole lot of dodgy business going on behind the scenes. Some countries are very clearly still manipulating the jury vote (Malta's 3 12s from Ukraine, Bulgaria, San Marino in amongst very little else looks very sus), others still blatantly sharing their max scores with each other (Greece/Cyprus as always), and Bulgaria's jury score in the final looks very peculiar alongside the fact it only came 5th with juries in the semi final :wasnme They didnt need it in the end but wouldnt surprise me if their delegation was up to their old tricks again and calling in some favours when it mattered. Still, factor it in and bet accordingly!

Anyway, i'm rambling into the void. Great winner for the contest, Israel would have been a nightmare for so many reasons.

And more importantly, win or lose it's just great to share betting chat on the contest. An annual tradition that I hope never dies, betnod or no betnod. It's been 20 years since I plugged my headphones into a computer in the uni computer room and listened to the entries prior to the 2006 contest because people like Komp and MP were posting about it, and every one since has been memorable in its own way. 2008 when MP and I were all in on Israel top 10 is particularly special - I don't remember ever being as nervous in my life as when it was their turn and hearing his voice pierce the air, and I still get a fuzzy feeling when I watch that performance. You are so right about it being such a shame they aren't here to share in the fun.

See you all here next year 🤞 if Betnod dies, find me on X at @beanie_esc (i dont post on that account, but may start if nowhere else to share chat) or just message me for Whatsapp or something!

Yep spot on. It's a great betting opportunity for smart gamblers willing to put some work in. That's exactly why the bookies hate actually taking money on it, they know they are open to getting pwned by the shrewdies. Much more so than something like the Premier League where everything is a known and the models have been refined to near perfection. Every year in Eurovision is different with all sorts of new things altering things considerably, leading to many more vulnerabilities in the betting markets. Some of the bookies are just downright dumb as well. Taking bets on the Jury vote result on the Saturday? Lmao although my Betway account was closed decades ago.

Always the way isn't it. I did think those Malta 12s were a bit weird but soon forgot about it as Bulgaria continued to wreck everyone :lol :beer

That's a great memory Beanie, what odds did you both get on that? I always loved the competition from when I was young and first bet on it with Komp/MP et all in 2003 in a thread on the ezboard Punters Lounge. Doing the Betfair in running markets etc. Great fun and I was hooked for every year after that. I will fully honestly admit the picks and bets I make myself are just based on vibes and fun and I don't think I ever got the winner or turned a profit until 2018 when Israel won and I had a decent chunk on. It shows how blind I can be that I clearly remember that 2008 thread and that Eurovision as well - but for different reasons. Komp loved the Latvian entry and had been bigging them up all week. So did I and I lumped on including more during the show. They came absolutely nowhere of course but I still remember it and it was hilarious. If only I had followed you and MP! Good times. I think they would have all loved the carnage of last night and no doubt they would have been on Bulgaria also. I will always raise a glass to Komp, Mickey Paul and Slick during Eurovision every year.

Really hope that Betnod can survive another year but I will add you on X Beanie, and anyone else on here who has an X account just in case it does not. My username on there is @bbdefender. It is a protected account but that's just because I value my privacy and only accept real people. I would be honoured to accept a follow back from anyone in here. I don't have WhatsApp which does make me unusual in today's world but I cba with it. I do have some forum members from past days on my X and also I think I follow Komp's Nephew on there. I've not interacted with him but I am pretty sure its him. I will drop you a follow on your X account later today Beanie. If this place dies idk where we could go tbh. It will be a sad day. I don't really share or post much on X at all. Certainly nothing for example about Bitcoin or the SWC IPO I mentioned earlier in this thread. I feel much more at ease sharing that on here. I basically use it mostly for FPL purposes.

Anyway like you said every Eurovision betting week is memorable and this has been a fine vintage imo. One for the ages. And thanks to that mistake market I got to put SKYBET back on their leash again. Very much have appreciated all contributors, @Beanie , @SAMOAN and @rcgills . Hope to see you all next year lads. :beer

I dont remember what the price was tbh - we backed it to qualify at odds against and then rolled it forward for the top 10. Quite a lot of the old TDP stuff is available on Wayback Machine. This is the Eurovision 2008 forum, for example. Cant believe we used to do a thread for every single song!

https://web.archive.org/web/2008052...edailypunt.com/forum/eurovision-2008-betting/

Lots of the pages dont work, but if you took the time to look at all the different captures from 2005-2014 (https://web.archive.org/web/20260000000000*/http://thedailypunt.com/) im sure there would be some great stuff on there - I keep meaning to find that thread where I entered a bunch of satellites with a bank of $200 and ended up in Vegas in that terribly organised $10k buyin tourney :lol fun times.

Great stuff Beanie. Look at the amount of threads and posters. Good times.

I fully believe what made TDP great was the people on there. Honestly I think it was the best site on the internet at its peak. I'm not sure it will be bettered. We were all unique but shared a love of - lets be honest - degeneracy :lol

Also awesome memories on the $10k! Back when Poker was at its absolute peak. We've lost that but we've still got Eurovision at least.

The older posts from another place are also available. I just found the 2004 Eurovision thread with Slick saying he made a killing on the 2003 contest - but a previous owner had all my posts personally deleted. Not even there as a guest poster, fully deleted.

Thanks again guys. Really enjoyed the last couple of weeks and nice to see some familiar names in here and not just Russian spammers. Was hoping Punter or Sean would pop in, but I have seen them logged in recently and did talk to Sean on here in February.

So many names in the 2008 TDP thread quoted above and as Jezza says it was the best site out there. Australian State League soccer in the summer and of course Eurovision are both big highlights fo me, but a personal favourite was when I wrote a song to the tune of Jazzman. Sadly could not convince Komp to learn the saxophone, but it bought some light relief. Also enjoyed talking poker with Komp and talking rugby league with Slick.
