Eurovision Song Contest Betting 9th - 13th May 2023

Nice catch on Israel atleast Jez. I got a little fortunate, Italy 4th and Czechs 10th, and France missing top 10. There was nothing in it between the songs from 15-10...10pts in it. Fine margins.

Overall the contest for the win panned out somewhat as predicted, both with juries and televotes, making the winner market slightly dull. I do wonder if the proliferation of stats makes the contest much less exciting as a betting market from now on.

Thanks Beanie. I did get a chunk bank from Israel Top 5 @ 1.83 but overall a loss from me this year, as is normally the case. Doesn't matter - thoroughly enjoyed the show and the action as always.

This is the second year in a row where the big favourite has won easily which as you say has made it kind of boring. Hoping for a more open contest next year, or a surprise winner. Should have realised next year is the 50th anniversary of the ABBA win. No wonder the jurys all seemed to want it held in Sweden.

A positive is that this is also the second year in a row where I saw no real obvious insider trading on the exchanges at the end of the show. In the past around 15 minutes before the result officially announced whoever had won would suddenly crash in price on Betfair and it would be clear some journalists or in the knows had the result before everyone and were using that info. I'm glad they've managed to stop that for the last 2 years, it really pissed me off in the past.

Thanks again Beanie and Slick both of you for making this thread great as always and I am most definitely looking forward to Sweden 2024.

P.S. Please don't ever retire Graham Norton. I think his commentary is great and that woman they had filling in for him when he was presenting the results was godawful :unsure

Same to you Jez.

I'm planning on being there next year, haven't been to Sweden yet so keen to go, and to put a bit more effort into the pre-selections and build up(Couldn't face going this year, British Eurovision fans are insufferable :beer).
