Should the competition be suspended this weekend due to all the postponements?

I'd like to request that this week's competition be suspended because there are practically no games being played in UK and I know sweet nothing about our continental friends leagues.

I'm not sure there's any need to suspend it. From what I can see there's still a full Premier League schedule, 4 games off in the Championship but the rest are still on, and then the odd few games from the lower leagues, plus the normal European leagues.

I'm happy to go with a majority vote on it though (give it until say midnight tonight so that people have got tomorrow to get their picks in if the vote is to continue as normal)? I'll go see if I can set up a poll.

As proposed by Newman and Topdog in the main thread for this week, given all the postponements this weekend, should the comp be suspended, or should people just make do with what's available?

Poll has been set up to expire in 10 hours, so just after midnight UK time. Only votes from players in the comp will be counted, just in case for some strange reason anyone from outside the comp decided to vote.

Forgot to mention, majority verdict by the time the poll closes will decide what happens.

Right, poll is set up in a new sticky at the top of this forum, away you go :thumb

We don't suspend it for international breaks and nobody knows fuck all about them. It would benefit me to scrap it as it's one less week for me to potentially get caught but I'm easy either way.

I would say even if we did suspend it this weekend we'd have to schedule a new round in midweek some time, there must be a few midweeks between now and the end of the season when there's a reasonably full fixture list.

If that's the case then it makes absolutely no sense to suspend it as there are likely to be more games available between now and Monday than there ever will be for a midweek programme.

As I posted in the other thread, if the plan is to cancel this weekend's round and replace it with a midweek programme later in the season then it would be a nonsense as there are more than enough fixtures between today and Monday for people to choose from. If we cancel because they're not the right kind of fixtures then we may as well cancel for every international break.

Just reading this on the Guardian:

No Premier League matches have been hit yet although Southampton are continuing to monitor conditions before the game against Stoke at St Mary’s, and plan to issue a further update at 5pm on Friday. Southampton said in a statement: “Following heavy snowfall in the region, the club has been consulting with Hampshire Police, Southampton City Council, the Premier League and Stoke, and will continue dialogue throughout the day with all relevant parties.”

West Brom are set to travel to their match at Watford via train as a precaution while the West Ham manager, David Moyes, expressed his concern about the roads before his side’s flight to Cardiff for their match at Swansea. “The Met office are saying people should not travel on the roads, especially around Cardiff and the M4, so that is a concern at the moment,” Moyes said.

“I’m guessing that’s no different for football clubs or supporters. If they are saying don’t travel I think the Premier League would have to consider that.”

To be honest, if there's a full Premier League programme then I can't see any reason at all for the comp to be postponed. Worst that can happen is that we'll have quite a few players posting similar picks.

I agree with ODM here.
If we are going postpone this weekend can we discard the results of international and fa cup weekend fixtures as I don't like these weekends' selections . I believe that I do worse at these weekends.
I could be wrong .

p.s. plenty to select from europe

no is my vote

Voted. Neck and neck at moment but I suspect you'll have deciding vote if equal in 10 hours time.
But having read your comments I suspect we will all weather thru and all select from the Premiership.
Anyway thanks for setting up poll. Sorts it out.

4-2 in favour of continuing as normal. Slick, Winrew, Kegman and Nawoo still to vote.

5-2 now looks like I will have to start researching my selections. Will be a funny old business as there is virtually no games from Div 1 down [or in Scotland] which is where I normally look first.
Guess Treath will get best score this week with his in-depth knowledge of foreign teams. :)
I haven't got a scooby-do about teams outside England.
Anyway good luck all.

Well you are 3rd in the IKTS comp, Newman, which suggests you must know a bit about the Premier League. So there's 10 games there for you to pick from for a start (Southampton v Stoke seemed to be the match most at risk, and Southampton have said this afternoon they expect it to go ahead).

Sssshh I don't want all my opponents to know my IKTS forecasts.
There is a lot of prestige in that competition.

"research" -that's where I've been going wrong

with my european selections, I choose teams that have the letters R,S or T in their name playing a team with E, I or O in their name

After reading all the reasons for and against I say let's roll with it.
It's the same for everyone apart from ODM who's been a freak of nature this year so expect him to get another 5 timer.

I was thinking exactly the same thing myself.
