I'll write a layman tutorial during the week because I found this to be the biggest obstacle.

I'll write one as soon as I get a minute, just as well really because it's a lot easier nowadays to get into crypto than it used to be.

No need to write one anymore, just sign up with coinbase to buy and job done.
If you want to trade use coinbase pro and save on transaction fees.

Trading alts are a different matter but if you learn to trade the main coins by using the above then trading alts will become second nature as it's exactly the same but you'll have to find the exchange a particular alt you want is traded on.
