Is Phil Jones the next Michael Dawson?

Phil Jones, playing in midfield, again excelled and scored United’s crucial first with a brilliantly controlled volley.

No mention of this then? :lookaround

Yes Wayne, it's in my first post. Try reading a little slower...

......... but is he not supposed to be primarily a defender? If that is the case, wouldn't it be a good idea if he could actually make a tackle now and again without giving a free kick away?

Yes, he will look good in United's side when they have 75% of possession in a game and the camera sees more of him blasting shots over the bar that it does in his own third of the field .....

I have no doubt he can play in the opposition's half against a shit team (sorry Swoops) but I want to know if he can be a decent defender for England. Judging by some of the tackles he put in last night, I'm erring towards a "no" verdict. Watching some of his tackles is like watching a pissed up tramp walking into a wheelie bin.

Fully aware of what's in your first post thanks so no need to read it slower - thanks for the tip though.

Perhaps you missed my point?

Well I was thinking that you missed my point. Dawson scores goals as well. Is he an international class defender? Is he fucking bollocks

Well to respond to your point, judging a 19 year old who's played 13 games for United (and only 40 odd in his career) is a little premature in my eyes.

But the United fans that watch this guy play week in, week out appreciate what he brings to the team now and moreso, the potential of what he could bring over the next 10 years. He has the raw materials to be a future United captain. Ronaldo, Becks, Giggs, Rooney, Scholes, the Nevs, etc, etc all had flaws in their games in the early days - they didn't do too bad between them did they?

Fergie's bought some shite in his time (which manager hasn't?) but he's also consistently turned young raw talent into top quality footballers time and time again. The only thing he hasn't done is do it in 4 months.

So why not give the lad a chance before turning this into another ODM witch-hunt?

Oh and to make a final point, as far as his potential for England is concerned, I couldn't give a shit.

Which. coincidently, mirrors exactly my sentiments about your opinion and the biased opinion of the united fans that you're quoting. They haven't really seen him doing much defending either so again you manage to skilfully avoid seeing my point.

Not remotely interested in how many different ways you can find to defend him so feel free to keep out of this thread if that's the best you can do:thumb By all means come back in and highlight the times that he puts in a decent defensive performance (it may even be tonight).

By the way, another aside, I'm not interested in what you think of my national team either. If you are English and you don't support your national team I must admit to being a little bit puzzled by it but I suppose I should remember that you are, after all, a member of the biggest glory hunting group in England so I would imagine you probably used to support Brazil and are now a big Spain fan eh?

Good luck tonight. I'd like United to go through, along with Manchester's top club.

:lol I'm sharing that.

I think Jones is going to be a great defender in years to come btw, as for now i think he's great going forward from midfield, he's 19 and is doing everything asked of him. He's a dream team must at present.

:lol Looks like I've hooked a big'un. :lol

So to summarise, your opinion is the only one allowed, this thread's only for criticising Jones and supporting your witch-hunt and although the majority of England fans hate United and have actively singled out United's players for numerous tournament exits over the years, you're puzzled that United fans don't want to support England.

Remove the blinkers my friend.

Adios.

I think that's what I said/was implying but he might listen to you. :lol

I'm starting to thing you must have some kind of learning disability:thinking You've just proven twice again that you are incapable of comprehending (and pretending that you were fishing for a bite is below even you I'm afraid).

Example 1
Is mine the only opinion allowed in here? No, I told you you're welcome back anytime to discuss Jones's DEFENSIVE performance which is what this thread is about.

Example 2
Blah blah, united fans, blah blah. - I've already told you that I don't care what United fans have to say about England. It's of absolutely no interest to me. It's like telling me they don't like watching something that I watch on telly. If you don't like England, don't watch them - simples. It makes not one jot of difference to my life or the life of actual football fans.

For what it's worth, I think the England fans who boo united fans because they play for united are moronic. It's just stupid to me but, again, they don't affect my enjoyment (or otherwise) of watching my country play

You're just embarrassing yourself now.

The above is so full of hypocrisy, contradiction and an inability to embrace anything but your own opinion, it's pointless continuing. And if none of this makes a 'jot of difference', stop replying. However, do keep churning out the insults if it makes you feel a big man.

Talking and brick walls spring to mind with you.

Stop replying:lol

It's my thread you fucking retard:lol Take your paranoid glory-hunting arse elsewhere:thumb

Oh and just for the record (I resisted posting this earlier)

the majority of England fans hate United and have actively singled out United's players for numerous tournament exits over the years, .

Whilst I don't condone the extremes they went to, the fact is they targeted United players for tournament exits because it was their fucking fault we got knocked out.

Another thing you're just too red-tinted to have noticed

Johnny fucking Evans:lol. They should have put Jones at the back when Vidic went off, put a proper midfielder on and left Evans where he belongs - anywhere but on a football pitch.

Last years CL finalists out at the group stage. Wouldn't have thought that had happened a lot.

These will be the same United players that got England there in the first place? You can't have it both ways.

We'd have won every tournament without those pesky United players.

I know m8, I've had it all day long with United fans telling me City are a good bet for the Europa cup @ 7/1, I told them it's a shit bet but you will get good odds on United, you can probably imagine the replies.

I was in football heaven @ 65 mins in tonight imagining walking in work and all the rags trying to avoid me lol, but I said to the misses it won't last long, Napoli and United will score.
I wound up a lot of reds about Basle but never expected United to go out, at least the Thursday night disadvantage has been wiped out.

You watch now, City and United are bound to be paired somewhere along the way.
