Just finished An Officer and A Spy , Robert Harris , hes a decent author but knocks the odd crap novel out , Fear Index , Ghost.

Anyway , the latest one is his best for quite a while ..

They lied to protect their country. He told the truth to save it. A gripping historical thriller from the bestselling author of FATHERLAND.

January 1895. On a freezing morning in the heart of Paris, an army officer, Georges Picquart, witnesses a convicted spy, Captain Alfred Dreyfus, being publicly humiliated in front of twenty thousand spectators baying 'Death to the Jew!'

The officer is rewarded with promotion: Picquart is made the French army's youngest colonel and put in command of 'the Statistical Section' - the shadowy intelligence unit that tracked down Dreyfus.

The spy, meanwhile, is given a punishment of medieval cruelty: Dreyfus is shipped off to a lifetime of solitary confinement on Devil's Island - unable to speak to anyone, not even his guards, his case seems closed forever.

But gradually Picquart comes to believe there is something rotten at the heart of the Statistical Section. When he discovers another German spy operating on French soil, his superiors are oddly reluctant to pursue it. Despite official warnings, Picquart persists, and soon the officer and the spy are in the same predicament.

Narrated by Picquart, An Officer and a Spy is a compelling recreation of a scandal that became the most famous miscarriage of justice in history. Compelling, too, are the echoes for our modern world: an intelligence agency gone rogue, justice corrupted in the name of national security, a newspaper witch-hunt of a persecuted minority, and the age-old instinct of those in power to cover-up their crimes.

Read it in two shifts at work , brilliant stuff

Based on a actual incident btw , which ( if your familiar with the case ) makes it more enjoyable ..

Your right , it wasn't crap , it was fucking awful ..

Anyway , just finished I Am Zlatan , mad as a box of frogs but a excellent read.
Arrogant , sarcastic , obnoxious and offensive , anyway , enough about ODM :)
Lets talk about Zlatan , dunno why , but this country has a downer on poor old Zlats , and when you read his book , it does really piss him off that we ( the UK ) don't appreciate what a genius he is( his words btw )
I think that's why he wacked four in against England :lol

A few quotes from Zlats ...

Reporter: “You’ve got some scars on your face, Zlatan. What has happened?”
Zlatan: “Well…I don’t know…you’ll have to ask your wife about that”

We are looking for an apartment (in Paris), if we do not find anything, then we will just buy a hotel." :lol

“At Barca, players were banned from driving their sports cars to training. I thought this was ridiculous – it was no one’s business what car I drive – so in April, before a match with Almeria, I drove my Ferrari Enzo to work. It caused a scene.”

Started on a few P J Wodehouse books .
I must say , they are hilarious , that's the beauty of having a Kindle , i have searched around for authors that i wouldn't normally read , and Wodehouse was a recommendation from a mate , and thanks very much ( Big H ) ..

A few quotes from his books ...

“She looked as if she had been poured into her clothes and had forgotten to say "when". ”

“I always advise people never to give advice.

“Oh, Jeeves,' I said; 'about that check suit.'
Yes, sir?'
Is it really a frost?'
A trifle too bizarre, sir, in my opinion.'
But lots of fellows have asked me who my tailor is.'
Doubtless in order to avoid him, sir.'
He's supposed to be one of the best men in London.'
I am saying nothing against his moral character, sir.” :lol

Nice one Wins. Do you bother with the re-runs of Jeeves and Wooster on Gold with Fry and Laurie. Makes me titter I must admit.

Just listened to 'Matterhorn' by Karl Marlantes on Audible. Big Vietnam book. Highly recommended

Never seen any of the programmes ODM , i will look to download them.

Fire and Fury , the talked about book about D Trump , christ , if a fraction of its true , the mans a megalomaniac , bigot , bully surrounded by yes men / women who are afraid to confront him.
Take it with a pinch of salt , but i cant all be made up bollocks.

I have been member of a book club for past five years.
During that time the book most thoroughly enjoyed by all [by a country mile] is:
"The Blinds" by Adam Sherberg.

A murder/mystery/fantasy story that continually catches the reader out.

Somewhere in the vastness of west Texas is a town called Caesura, that the locals refer to as The Blinds.
The residents are either criminals or witnesses in hiding because all have undergone a process which removed their personal memories, and none remember which they are. The entire town is kept secure and hidden from the world while most inhabitants go about their business quietly wondering what might have put them in a position to completely surrender their identities, and whether they were guilty of horrible crimes or an innocent who got caught up in something. However, two violent deaths shatter the quiet routine and set the entire town on edge
