Trying Something Out ..

Wednesday 25th January

3.00 Newcastle - Imperial Command 12/1 (365) :hissyfit
IMPERIAL COMMAND is currently the outsider of the field in this class 4 handicap but im hoping that he can outrun those odds here this afternoon. On the face of it probably does have to step up on what hes been achieving since returning from a lay off , but his last time out 4th to the inform Zealot werent that bad of an effort imo and hopefully he can step up on that here especially as he seems to like it here at Newcastle , over todays CD he has 2 wins and 3 places from 8 runs whilst overall at the course he has 4 wins/3 places from 10 outings. So hes there or thereabouts more often than not and he seems to have a decent draw today. Comes into this on a mark of 80 but has won off as high as 85 before so for me that aids his cause as well. Trainer Mark Loughnane sends just this one to the meeting and is bang in form at the moment , with a 31% strike rate over the past three weeks whilst Billy Loughnane gets the steering job , bit off putting that he's 0 from 4 on the horse , but he too is in flying form at the moment , with a 26% strike rate over the past fortnight. So the fact that he's riding so well at the moment kinda negates that for me. When the trainer and jockey have teamed up over the past three weeks they have a more than respectable 32% strike rate. Theres a few with better claims coming into the race but given the horses liking for the course , and the trainers / jockeys current form im more than happy to take a chance at the current odds.

8.00 Kempton - Solanna 9/2 :hissyfit 3rd - Moonlit Cloud 14/1 (365) :hissyfit
A couple of runners in this catch my eye , firstly last time out winner SOLANNA , who won by 1/2 length over this evenings CD , looked value for further imo as he werent for catching , gets a 4lb rise for that win but given the manner in which he won that might not be enough to stop him following up here. That was his first run over CD , so 1/1 , and overall he's won three races from five races. Draw doesnt look to bad to me , so that should help in the attempt for the two timer. John Butler sends just this one to the meeting and Rob Hornby in the plate for the first time. Should go well. The other one i like is MOONLIT CLOUD , who was third last time out to the re opposing Cowboy , but im hoping that she can turn that form around here. Like my other selection she looks to have a decent enough berth and i think she can go well at a decent price.

Saturday 28th January

11.40 Cheltenham - Scriptwriter 3/1 (365,Lads,Coral)
SCRIPTWRITER has impressed since leaving Aiden O'Briens yard for Milton Harris' .. In three outings hes yet to be beaten and to my eyes the form looks decent. Won lto on the flat at Wolverhampton and before that won two hurdles races comfortably , is one from one here at Cheltenham and is also 1/1 over todays distance. Trainer brings just this one here today and he has a 33% strike rate over the past three weeks , Paddy Brennan in the plate and hes two from two on the horse , hes got a 50% strike rate over the past fortnight and i think hes a jockey you can trust to get your horse home if its capable. Some decent looking opposition but from what i've seen so far Scriptwriter looks an exciting prospect and i think he can take this on the way to bigger and better things.

2.18 Lingfield - Impeach 11/2 (Lads,BFred) - Tyger Bay 7/4 (365,Lads)
TYGER BAY has been the model of consistency , won two races back to back over CD back in December , then was 2nd and then 3rd (lto , again over CD) .. Has won 3 and placed once from 5 runs over CD and coming down in class i can see him going very close here this afternoon. William Carver has ridden him twice winning once and placing in the other and comes here for this one ride. Whilst IMPEACH has also won 3 and placed once (from 6 runs over CD) , ran a pleasing enough race on his return to action last time out and i think better can be expected here with that run under his saddle and with the bang in form Billy Loughnane in the saddle for the first time. Trainer Conrad Allen is responsible for both selections and theyre his only runners on the card. Whilst i favour Tyger Bay slightly , a spot on Impeach would be a major threat to all.

3.35 Cheltenham - Mofasa 20/1 (Lads)
Open looking race where i like the look of MOFASA at a decent price , before his last run he'd won two on the bounce and looked good in doing so but last time out , where he went off an odds on favourite , he totally bombed and ran too badly to be true coming plum last of four. I really think he can be forgiven that run (could be wrong tho , has been known lol) and at the 20s on offer i think hes worth a shot to nothing as those at the front end of the market all look beatable. I think the main problem is he makes the odd mistake , if he can iron out that then i think he'll win some decent races. Trainer sends just this one to the meeting and he knows the time of day , has a 33% strike rate when sending his runners here this term and is 15.2% overall at the course. Jockey is two from three on the horse , and hes been riding well of late with an 18.6% strike rate over the past month and he has a 28.6% strike rate at Cheltenham this season along with a profit of +£8.50. All things considered i think that the 20/1 is too bigger price to ignore , and fingers crossed he can get back on track this afternoon.

4.10 Cheltenham - Malakhana 25/1 (365,Hills)
Another typical open looking Cheltenham Handicap where quite a few of the 16 runners look to hold chances , and one of them is the decently priced MALAKHANA , who i think could give the principals something to think about if at his best. Hes a bit like my selection in the 3.35 where he had been running well but then threw in a poor effort last time , and for whatever reason , he seems friendless in the betting ,, to me in his last race he looked to be going okay in midfield when he clipped heels , that put him off his stride and he lost his chance .. before that race he'd won a brace of races on the flat .. last season (when he joined the Ian Williams yard) he excelled with figures of - 1,5,2,4,1,1,1 hes come back this term and ran okay but all , bar his last race , have been on the flat so i think , that given his prior form over hurdles , its far too early to be giving up on him. Trainer sends just this one to the meeting today and hes a shrewdie and i dont think he'd be sending him if he didnt think he had a chance , whilst jockey Charlie Todd also goes for just this one ride and he has three wins from 7 rides aboard the horse. Not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination but too early to be writing him off and at the price well worth a go i think.

7.00 Kempton - Crystal Casque 10/1 (BFred) - Billy Mill 8/1 (365)
Couple in this one catch my eye , both hailing from the Rod Millman yard , firstly CRYSTAL CASQUE , who was holding her form well before having a break and was a sound enough 4th on her re appearance last time out , if she can come on for that run like she ought to then i think she has a serious chance in this. Usually runs well here at Kempton , she has two wins and two places from 6 runs over this evenings CD , Oliver Searle gets the leg up and he has a win and two places from 6 rides to date and he comes her solely for this ride. The trainers other runner is BILLY MILL and like his stablemate had been running well enough before a break and ran a respectable enough comeback last time , and hopefully will also come on for that lto run. Decent record over this evenings CD , a win and 2 places from 4 outings . Saffie Osbourne on steering duties and shes one from one on the horse. If on song both can go well and either of them are more than capable of taking this.

Good luck tomorrow, Sean. Great write up. Just joined you in the first on Scriptwriter. I have a very small ew bet on Mombasa in that too, but it's only in hope of a 3rd place at best, at big odds.
Off to the football after that race but i should be back in time for the 7:00

Cheers Punter . Fingers crossed for Scriptwriter , and good luck for Mombasa for a place

Enjoy the footy , allotment-ing for me this savvo then feet up ready for the boxing , look forward to Yarde and Beterbiev

3.45 Sedgefield - Onestepatatime 7/2 (Hills,Lads,Coral) - Well Cliche 10/1 (Hills,Lads,Coral)
Skyhill is currently the fave in this in search of the three timer and whilst hes a consistent sort and should go well i fancy a couple of others in the race who could well spoil the party. First up is ONESTEPATATIME who was a decisive winner last time out over CD , beating Morningside by 7 1/2 lengths , and if in the same sort of mood i dont think that a 5lb rise will hinder her chances. Horse has never been unplaced over todays CD with a win and two places from three runs. Trainer John Wainwright sends just this one to the course whilst jockey Sean Quinlan gets the leg up , he rode her to victory last time so from his three rides to date he has a win and a place under his belt. Considering the way she won lto i think that the 7/2 on offer looks big so i couldnt leave her unbacked. The other one i like is WELL CLICHE who has been running fairly consistently it has to be said , always seems to be there or thereabouts , only win of her career came over this CD back in April of last year. And in her only other run over CD she placed so like my other selection she has never been unplaced over todays CD. Martin Todhunter sends just this one and he has a 25% strike rate over the past three weeks and has a 21.8% strike rate at Sedgefield. Sean Quinlan (who rides my other selection) knows the horse as he rode her the last twice so it does me think does he favour Onestepatatime over this one .. Dylan Johnston on board for the first time and takes off a valuable 7lb , and he too only goes for this one. Despite having only one career win thus far i think shes capable of giving the market leaders something to think about at a backable price.

6.00 Kempton - Rosette 12/1 (365) - Man Made Of Smoke 7/2 (365)
Couple in this stand out for me , first one is joint top weight ROSETTE who hasnt exactly set the world alight it has to be said , having had 8 races and only placing twice , but i think its still to early to be writing her off , has only ever run over a mile once before and that was over this evenings CD , where she came a respectable second so theres a bit of hope that this step up in trip will help bring the best out in her. And being with the Johnstons , who are adept at bringing the best out of horses when stepping them up is also a cause for hope. Trainer just brings this one to the meeting , and he has an 18% strike rate over the past fortnight , and the fact that shes the longest traveller of the meeting could be a pointer in itself , as i cant see them bringing her here solely for the night air. Jockey Jack Mitchell also comes here for this one horse , has ridden the horse once before resulting in a place (the second over CD back in August last year) and has been amongst the winners of late with a 24.3% strike rate over the past month. Jockey and trainer have got a 33% strike rate when pooling their talents over the last three weeks , despite still being a maiden i can see her going well. The other one i like is MAN MADE OF SMOKE , who comes into this on the back of a solid effort at Wolverhampton last time out , when he was a length second to Rebel Angel , like my other selection he remains a maiden but its not for the want of trying , has been running well of late and i can see him going in sooner or later (hopefully sooner lol). Has a place from his sole run here (CD) , and has run well on both runs over todays distance (3rd and 4th). Gets in here off 1lb lower than his last outing so should remain competitive and give his running. Trainer is one of those i have trouble in working out to be honest but he brings just this one here which caught my eye , jockey also here for this one only , and he rode him last time when he was second. Should go well and be in the mix come the finishing line.

3.00 Wincanton - Certainly Red 4/1 (365,Hills) - Foxboro 12/1 (365,Lads,Coral,BFred)
Open looking race where a few of the big name stables are represented but im going to go with a couple of runners from smaller yards who i think could go well. First up is the bang in form CERTAINLY RED , comes into this in the hunt for a three timer and should go well in trying to achieve it. Won here over CD on his penultimate run comfortably by 17 lengths , then followed that up last time with a 6 1/2 length win at Southwell over 2m4f ,, to be honest he could of won his first race after a lay off already making it three on the bounce but was brought down when going well. So definatley in fine fettle at the moment. Hes two from two over todays CD. Trainer is going well with a 33% strike rate in the past month and Certainly Red is her sole runner at the meeting today , and she has a 100% strike rate when sending runners here this term. Marc Goldstein in the hot seat and he seems to get on well with the horse , rode him on his three runs this term making it 5 wins and 2 places from his 14 rides to date. Hes also here for just this one and i can see him going close here. The other one i like is FOXBORO who was a decent enough 5th over 3m2f last time , that was his first attempt over 3m so has to prove he stays but his trainers shrewd enough imho so i think hes worth a go. Has only run here once , coming second over 2m4f to Native Robin back at the tail end of 2021. Jockey Harry Kimber here for just the one ride and hes one from one on the horse whilst trainer Robert Walford also comes here for just this one , has a 28% strike rate over the past three weeks. Despite having to prove himself over this trip i think hes worth a pop at a decent price.

3.25 Southwell - Capital Theory 4/1 (Generally)
A few in this look to hold chances but im going to side with the ultra consistent CAPITAL THEORY , whose been second in his last two runs , last time out was a very solid looking second in a class two at Kempton. Since coming back from a lay off he looks totally rejuvinated , aside from his sixth on his re appearance last October his figures are - 3,1,1,1,2,2 and i can seen see no reason why he shouldnt go well again today. Has run once here resulting in a place. Looks to have a decent enough draw which should aid his cause. Charlie Johnston sends just this one to the course today and has a 17.5% strike rate over the past month , whilst Oliver Stammers is in the saddle for the first time and hes been riding well of late with a 33% strike rate over the past fortnight. As i said a few could go well in this but i think the selection will be challenging come the line.

7.00 Chelmsford - Harb 4/1 (365) - La Roca Del Fuego 10/1 (365)
A couple catch my eye in this one , first one is HARB who was a good second to the progressive Miss Nay Never last time out , that was over todays CD so today shouldnt hold any fears for him , usually runs well when visiting here , overall he has two wins and two places from his five runs. Trainer sends just this one out today , and hes only had one runner out this year from what i can see and that came second so hard to gauge what sort of form hes in to be honest. Shane Kelly also here for this one and he has two wins / two places from nine rides on the horse. Think he should go close today. The other one i like is LA ROCA DEL FUEGO who was 5th lto , but should show up better here i feel where he seems to save his best for , two wins from three runs over CD and five wins from 9 runs overall at the course so clearly cant be discounted back at a track he clearly has a liking for. His last win was three races back , back in December of last year , and that came over this track and trip. I think he'll have to step up on his last run but thats entirely possible being back here. Geoffrey Deacon runs just this one here this evening , and he has a decent enough 17% strike rate when sending his runners to Chelmsford , whilst George Bass is also here for just this one ride , not been in the best of form lately , having been without a winner in 34 rides , but the fact that he has a decent enough record on the horse (2 wins and 2 places from 9 rides) made me think that i'll let that pass , capable of a good showing.

8.00 Chelmsford - The Bay Warrior 7/1 (365)
Trappy looking race with a short priced favourite in Storm catcher but im hoping that THE BAY WARRIOR can overturn him on his third attempt .. Got beaten by him the last twice but im hopeful of a better showing here for some reason and keeping my fingers crossed that he can reverse those placings and come out on top. Has only been unplaced once in five outings here , having won and placed twice. Rose Dawes in the saddle for the first time and i personally dont think shes bad value for her 7lb claim whilst Mark Usher has just this one at the meeting tonight and he has an 18% strike rate over the past three weeks. Should be in the mix i think.

3.00 Wincanton - Certainly Red 4/1 (365,Hills) :thumb 1st 11/4 - Foxboro 12/1 (365,Lads,Coral,BFred) :hissyfit

3.25 Southwell - Capital Theory 4/1 (Generally) :rant2nd

7.00 Chelmsford - Harb 4/1 (365) :hissyfit- La Roca Del Fuego 10/1 (365) Non Runner
