2011 Rugby Union World Cup Betting

Wales 66- NIL
we looked good today , lets hope there's no serious injuries

Ireland v Italy in 10 minutes
Italy usually start well , can see Ireland overcoming the cap so I'm on

Ireland-12

pie are you having a bet on Italy drop goal for the first score?

Request. Does anyone know a link to a list of the top ten point scorers so far?

I could go through each game and tally myself, but can't be arsed.

I have a fair few quid on James O'Connor - 9 conversions slotted yesteday, and now Carter out. In with a big chance if Aus can boot out SA (Morne Steyn) in Quarters.

this is from the official site

http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/statis...=Points/team=0/player=0/statistics/index.html

Morné Steyn South Africa 4 53 2 14 5 0 0 0
Kurt Morath Tonga 4 45 0 6 11 0 0 0
Colin Slade New Zealand 4 36 1 14 1 0 0 0
James O'Connor Australia 3 35 1 12 2 0 0 0

HALF-TIME: Ireland 9-6 Italy
Full-time: Ireland 36-6 Italy
Bet365, Stand and Deliver! :dance

paddy power comes out with the caps for next week

Saturday
Ireland (-3.0) 1.90 Wales (+3.0) 1.90

England (-4.0) 1.90 France (+4.0) 1.90

Sunday
Australia (-1.0) 1.90 South Africa (+1.0) 1.90

New Zealand (-26.0) 1.90 Argentina (+26.0) 1.90

for me its going to be Wales , France , Australia and New Zealand

Ireland Wales should be a hundinger. I have Wales as slight favourites, perhaps because - despite the comprehensive win at the weekend, the Oirish didn't really get going until the second half, notably after the Castro hamstring. 9-6 half-time. But must say Irish support in the stands is terrific.

France could be anything. England might be 14 men for 20 minutes. Can't go near that one.

Aus v SA again bloody tricky. Aus have stuttered to some extent, but are on an upward curve and Cooper Barnes 10-12 looks good. More two offer across the field but there's that bloody Yarpie pack and an ability to get the job done in WC KOs. But no Frans Steyn to punish any Aus penalty infringement within 60 metres!

NZ easy. Argies aren't much good at the moment.

I can't agree with you Pie, or with Traeth, you say the Irish did not get going until the second half! It may be Ireland blow away the opposition in the second half, remember Australia failed to score in the second half, and Italy also failed to score in the second half against Ireland. Both of them two countries also failed to score a try during both games. Form at the World Cup is important, no doubt about that. Ireland have been tested twice, by Australia and Italy and have beaten them well. Wales on the other hand have been tested once, by South Africa and have failed.
A quote from Conor O'Shea (TV Pundit & ex International) "We are playing the hardest Six Nations team but if we get through we would be massive favourites in any semi-final. We have a team full of players used to beating Welsh districts in the League and Heineken Cup." :D

For me the Ireland v Wales game is the one to avoid....but I will probably have a patriotic punt :Dfrom the other quarter finals, France, South Africa and of course NZ will progress IMO.

Wales v Ireland
I'm big fan of the importance of the backrow and in my opinion its the only place where Ireland are superior to Wales
We have Faletau , Lydiate and Warburton. The breadman is the only that has stood out in the backrow. These three do lack international experience.
In yesterday's match Ferris, O'Brien and Heaslip were outstanding both in defence and gaining yardage.
It is because of this backrow factor that I'm not so optimistic as the rest of Welsh fans.
Here in Wales prior to the start of the World Cup not many of us thought we could get past the Aussies in the quarters. After your great win the Welsh have gone overboard on the optimism factor. The only logic is that we've beaten them before.
I can see this game being won by one score , I'm hoping that it will be a break by Hook feeding North to score under the posts.
I'm looking forward to a great match.

p.s. this is the World Cup not Heineken rugby

pps hope we get a decent ref , I would be happy with Barnes even after that penalty

just found out who the refs are for the quarters

Joubert will kick-off the quarter-final action when he takes charge of Wales v Ireland in Wellington on Saturday at 18:00,
while Walsh will officiate England v France in Auckland at 20:30.
The following day will see Lawrence referee South Africa v Australia in Wellington at 18:00
and Owens take charge of the New Zealand v Argentina match at 20:30

Oh Traeth, the Heineken Cup is a touchy subject for the Welsh :D, maybe thats got something to do with the fact that a Welsh club has never won it? Cardiff were the losers in the first final in 1996 and after that, the Welsh have got no closer. I am afraid to say that the Heineken Cup is actually the European Club Cup, the champions league of Rugby. Munster and Leinster have been to the fore in this competition in recent years -
2006 - Munster.
2007 - London Wasps.
2008 - Munster.
2009 - Leinster.
2010 - Toulouse.
2011 - Leinster.
A little like Barcelona in the Champions League........and then Spain in the World Cup, perhaps !!.......I hope :unsure
I know the Welsh take Rugby Union very seriously as its your national game and the No 1 sport, in Ireland on the other hand its only No 4.

We are at the point now where after a good betting run, that we may now start betting with the heart, You on Wales, Pie on the Australia and myself also backing my own. Anyhow, a few interesting games to look forward to :)

I don't know much about rugby - or anything else for that matter - so there's no reason why my thoughts should be of any interest to anyone but I've had a profitable wc so far (mainly from backing against the handicaps early on) soil having a punt in all four games.

England are pure shite but surely France are even worse.

ireland to beat Wales (No hcap) 5/6

Lay of the Aussies at just above evens

Lay of nz at -27 on the basis that surely they'll ease off and save something for the next match at some stage whereas the Argies will have be. Able to give everything with a good sleep on the plane home to look forward to.

Ah - dissention in the ranks, good!

Just to stick with that first game of the weekend. Yeah, the Irish back row with ball in hand looks very dangerous. But Warbuton (23 tomorrow!) and Lydiate are no slouches and possibly better at gaining turnover ball on the ground [Alright, conjecture]. Wales, defensive coach Shaun Edwards, will be running videos of the threat endlessly. I just think Wales have wider options in the overall threat department. 23 tries so far, in the 'Group of Death'. Hook, Shane Williams back or on the bench.

Wales would hope for parity in the set piece. Rory Best unlikely for Ireland at hooker through injury.

This could come down to experience, the nitty gritty of older heads grinding out a win. Which means Ireland, all the way. But, the counter could be younger legs and probably a stronger bench - Wales. The Welsh really are the fittest team we've seen to date. There's growing invention and confidence.

Traeth is on the fence. Onedunme is wasting his money on Ireland , Suirthing is all Ireland. Pie is Wales to win by 5 to 10. Bookies are Ireland.

And it'll all come down to a Joubert decision, a lucky bounce, an early injury. Most likely kicking from the tee.

We'll see. I'm Wales.

Traeth is on the fence.
no he's not

I was a diplomatic post pie ,

my money will be on a straight Wales win , I'm holding out for a better price

the Irish who think that Heineken Cup thing is the be all and end all of "international" rugby predicting , will be lumping on Ireland and the Wales price will go up.

Best price today for Wales is 2.38 with paddy power!

c'mon Cymru

Re Ireland v Wales, which ever you decide and we all agree that it is going to be close, it may also be worth putting a few quid on the draw, the price for the draw varies from 25/1 to 14/1. I did the draw at 22/1 with Paddy. 40 games of rugby played so far at this tournament and only one draw!

Allright m8 good to see you and thanks for popping by.

It's looking like a great weekend for sport even without the Prem, England on Fri night then Wales v Ireland and England v France in the WC quarters followed by the RL Grand final on Sat evening, I aint going to move a muscle on Saturday just stuck to the couch.

England boss Martin Johnson has opted to team up Toby Flood and Jonny Wilkinson for the Rugby World Cup quarter-final against France.
Flood has been named at inside centre ahead of Mike Tindall, who has been struggling with a dead leg, with Wilkinson pulling the strings at fly-half.
The inclusion for Flood is one of four changes made by Johnson following the 16-12 win over Scotland, with Tom Palmer, Nick Easter and Mark Cueto also handed starts.
With Delon Armitage suspended, Cueto was the obvious option to come in on the wing, with the Sale man unlucky to miss the Scotland game after his hat-trick against Romania.
Palmer is preferred at lock to Courtney Lawes after impressing off the bench at Eden Park, while Easter takes over from James Haskell at No.8.
Lawes and Haskell join Dylan Hartley, Alex Corbisiero and Simon Shaw among the replacements, with Johnson opting for a 5:2 split. That means Richard Wigglesworth and Matt Banahan will cover the back division.
The Wilkinson-Flood axis is nothing new for England. Having played in the role during their days at Newcastle, the duo finished the 2007 RWC final in the positions, while they then teamed up for the 2008 RBS Six Nations.
Johnson, though, has only partnered Wilkinson and Flood together once before - in 2010 - while he previously tried Olly Barkley and Shane Geraghty in the No.12 jersey before abandoning plans for a second playmaker in favour of a powerful ball-carrier
England: 15 Ben Foden, 14 Chris Ashton, 13 Manu Tuilagi, 12 Toby Flood, 11 Mark Cueto, 10 Jonny Wilkinson, 9 Ben Youngs, 8 Nick Easter, 7 Lewis Moody (captain), 6 Tom Croft, 5 Tom Palmer, 4 Louis Deacon, 3 Dan Cole, 2 Steve Thompson, 1 Matt Stevens.
Replacements: 16 Dylan Hartley, 17 Alex Corbisiero, 18 Courtney Lawes, 19 Simon Shaw, 20 James Haskell, 21 Richard Wigglesworth, 22 Matt Banahan.
