Right, it is time for football! Ante post football! Punts Pay in May 2020/21!

I'll keep all ante post bets in here instead of starting yet another thread lol, but i'll keep all bets together.
And unlike my Pay in May 2014, i'll be adding one or two combo' bets and a bit of reasoning this time.

I'd like to have started with a decent size bet (by my small standards) in the Championship but there are no odds for the market in mind just yet. But there is one that i'm really keen on, that's coming soon. Assuming the odds represent my idea of value.

For starters though..

PREMIER LEAGUE
17/08/20 Relegation - Everton £8 @ 25/1 W.Hills

Reasoning: I think only Arsenal have been in the top flight in English football longer than Everton. The blue noses have flirted with relegation a few times in recent years (at some point in the season) and despite getting Ancelotti on board i've a feeling they could be leaving the top flight for the first time since being promoted in 1954.
It's not a big bet that i want to pile into but there's a chance. Without knowing of any dealings in the transfer market i think 25/1 is worth taking at this point.

Recent seasons is the starting point. Strugglers for a while now.

They rely on too many youngsters and have the worst goalkeeper in the league.

An old out dated stadium, being left behind with some of the grounds that are about these days. Promoted clubs Leeds and WBA have better grounds. You may think WTF has a ground got to do with it, but i can tell you as a Red, that the new stand and the redevelopment of Anfield has made a huge difference to us. With a capacity of just 44,000 it was beginning to feel like we were no longer a big club. We were standing still.
And Evertons plans for a new stadium down the docks just seems like a bullshit pipe dream at present.

I also think about when when Utd won the prem for the first time in 26? 27? yrs in 1992. While they started dominating their City rivals started struggling and were relegated in 96 (Sorry to have to mention that Slick) :lookaround
Maybe there's a comparison there as Liverpool have started lifting trophies again.

Maybe their time is up. One of the longest serving teams in top flight English football are about to be relegated.
A similar situation to what happened to Hamburg in the Bundesliga, the season before last.

Adding Salford for a bet in League Two
Finished 11th last season, 19pts off the leaders. I expected better of them but they could barely win back to back games. I'm expecting better this time around. They are funded well enough, have bought in some good experience from around the lower leagues and should be thereabouts at the end of the season.

The Championship odds for relegation are up and the bet i was looking for is there.
Bournemouth to be relegated. I find it unbelievable that bookies have them 4th favourites for promotion.

Howe has gone, so has Fraser, Ake and so have both club captain Simon Francis and vice captain Andrew Surman.
Brilliant young goalkeeper and fans player of the season Aaron Ramsdale has agreed terms with Sheffield Utd in an 18.5M deal, too.

They may well have a season or two in the championship but this is a totally different Bournemouth team now, one that's much more likely to go down again than regain Premier League status imo.

They are a small club even for the Championship. I must have a dozen match day programmes in the attic of regular games against Hereford in the bottom two leagues.
I shouldn't give them too hard a time as they deserve much credit for their achievements over the past 5 or 6 yrs but for me the journey is over and they face uncertain times.
I wouldn't be surprised if owner Maxim Demin starts draining the money from the club rather than trying to invest now. And maybe even pull some daft stunt by employing Harry Redknapp to try and save them after Christmas.

Bristol City! 4 seasons ago i said City would become a PL team within 3 seasons, so yeah, i was wrong (only had small bets on them then), but i'm sticking with them again this season.
Manager Lee Johnson who was in charge of City during those 4 seasons was sacked last month and they are now under new management. Investment continues on and off the pitch (owner Stephen Landsdowne has a net worth of about £1.9B).
It's the price that's a bit more special this year. Last few seasons they have been 16 & 20/1 to win it but you can get 18/1 just for promotion with Skybet this season. Most are going around 13/2 to 8/1 though. I cant see 18/1 lasting too long.

I've had a small punt on Boro for promotion too. I like that old fcuker Warnock, he's been a decent manager over the years and has already promoted teams to the top flight on four occasions. I wouldnt be surprised if he made it a fifth and bought some good times to the Boro fans.
Most other firms are going around half the 10/1 offered by Paddy P's.

lovely stuff Punt and good luck.
If you don't mind I'll also copy these into the main footy forum ante post thread when it's up.
I'll probably get round to it this weekend.

We we're struggling since way before 96 Punt:lol
96 stands out because it was the beginning of the downfall into the old 2nd division in 98:cry which RC will remember well.

Have Everton ever been relegated. I was under the impression they've been in the topflight the longest so it's a big call from you saying they could go down.
Can't see it myself but who am I to argue, you're quite good at predicting Ante post bets.

I like the Boro bet though, Warnock is one shrewd old bastard and knows how to get out of that division.

Cheers Slick and yeah no problem. I'll add to it throughout the season.
