The Manchester City thread

I meant to ask about him the other day, I know nothing about him either.
Any Brazilian signing has to be a good one though, unless its Lucas Lieva, of course :hissyfit

Aye but Robinho and Elano were the first to spring to my mind, could be fantastic one game but shite the folllowing three or four.

Just been reading up on Fernandinho and apparently he's the same sort of player as Yaya, If so then I won't grumble and he'll also come in handy when Yaya fcuks off the the African nations the year after next, suppose it will also give Yaya free rein to bomb forward where he's at his most effective, could also spell the end for Barry I reckon if it works out.

I thought Lucas was brilliant the season before last after i had my doubts about him, just a pity Injury's have hindered him just as he was getting going.

Goodnight Bert and God bless.

B4 my time I know but any true City fan would have grown up with the Legend that is Bert Trautmann.

STEVE Clarke has described the enthusiasm of new signing Scott Sinclair and Baggies stalwart Zoltan Gera as a ‘breath of fresh air’ in the Baggies camp.

Albion head to Everton today (ko 3pm) with Sinclair chomping at the bit to start the Goodison Park encounter following a frustrating season on the sidelines at Manchester City.

And Clarke admits the 24-year-old winger is on a mission to prove a point, with the carrot of forcing his way into England’s World Cup squad, should they qualify for Brazil 2014.

“I think it’s a big year for him,” said the Albion chief.

“When you’re that age and you’ve had a year without football, I think you have to be focused on the job – and Scott is certainly focused on the job.

“He is so excited to be here.

“I think I could throw him on the pitch today but I’d be a little bit concerned he’d run out of energy after 20 minutes.

“He’s so hyped up to start the game – it’s so refreshing to see.

“I’m genuinely excited because he came in on Thursday and was like a breath of fresh air around the place.

“It was a blow in the morning with the news about Nicolas [Anelka] but then we had Scotty come in the afternoon, buzzing and lifting everyone’s spirits.”

He added: “Scott has to get his career back on track.

“He’s a young player who needs to play.

“It’s a World Cup year so can he be part of the squad – yes, why not?

“If he’s a winger who can create and score goals, why can’t he be part of the England squad that goes to Brazil?

“He’s got a lot to play for this year.

“He’s obviously got great potential otherwise a club like Man City wouldn’t have splashed out the money for him.

“He’s also been at Chelsea, so he’s been at big clubs – but his best spell for playing, scoring and creating was at Swansea.

“So, I think he’s hoping coming to West Bromwich Albion will give him the same platform to do well.

“I think there are some places open in the England squad - there has to be, as a week in football is a long time, never mind six months or a year, for someone to force their way into the plans to go the World Cup.

“For all the young wingers that want to get to Brazil and represent their country, I think there is a great chance for them all."

Meanwhile, Clarke says no-one can wipe the smile of Gera’s face as he prepares to follow fellow long-term knee injury victim George Thorne back into first-team training next week.

“I’ve also got Zoltan Gera, whose almost ready to join the team again next week for training,” he said.

“He’s like a 12-year-old at the moment – he’s so excited about the chance to be back out with the group.

“And to see that is so refreshing.”

Good luck to the kid, hope he does well at the Baggies as he was never given and was never going to get a fair run at City (fcuk knows why he was brought in), but I genuinely hope he goes on to prove City wrong, nowt to do with him being still on the books:wink.

Oh Aye!!, drop the dipsy bimbo too.

Official statement from Citys website.....

MCFC Financial Fair Play Statement:

Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at the end of the current financial year (May 31st) it is on course to financially break even, as planned.

Operating with no debt, the Club is realising its football and commercial opportunities whilst continuing unprecedented investments in both youth development and the local community

From the outset, the Club has engaged with UEFA in its introduction of the Financial Fair Play Regulations in good faith and without prejudice and in a transparent and collaborative manner. The Club’s position is that it is beholden upon UEFA and the European football establishment to ensure the same.

The Club can confirm that it has been in discussions with UEFA over the last month - in relation to the application of Financial Fair Play regulations - as has been widely reported and communicated by UEFA. At the heart of those discussions is a fundamental disagreement between the Club’s and UEFA’s respective interpretations of the FFP regulations on players purchased before 2010. The Club believes it has complied with the FFP regulations on this and all other matters.

In normal circumstances, the Club would wish to pursue its case and present its position through every avenue of recourse. However, our decision to do so must be balanced against the practical realities for our fans, for our partners and in the interests of the commercial operations of the Club.

As a result of these considerations and the fact that the Club is now break even in in its operations, the Club has decided to enter into a compromise agreement with UEFA with the following practical outcomes:

  • - MCFC will lose 10m Euros of its share of income from UEFA for competing in the Champions League completion in season 2013-14.
  • - MCFC will lose 10m Euros of its share of income from UEFA for competing in the Champions League for season 2014-15
  • - Rather than having an accumulative allowance of 30m Euros of losses over the next two reporting years (like all other clubs), MCFC will have specific stipulated allowances for 2013-14 and 2014-15 of 20m Euros and 10m Euros respectively. Significantly, MCFC plans to be profitable in 2014-15 and in the years that follow.
  • - The MCFC Champions League squad for the 2014-15 competition will be limited to 21 players. In 2013-14 the club registered 23 players for the competition and used 21.
  • - The Club’s expenditure on new players for the upcoming summer transfer window, on top of income from players it might sell, will be limited to 60m euros. This will have no material impact on the Club’s planned transfer activity.
  • - The wage bill of the whole club (playing and non-playing staff) for 2014-15 will need to remain at the same level as that of 2013-14 season. It is important to note that additional bonuses for performances can be paid outside this number. Importantly, in reality, the existing MCFC business plan sees a natural decline in that wage bill.
  • - Given the unique nature of the new City Football Group structure – which incorporates MCFC, New York City, Melbourne Heart and a number of other companies, the Club has agreed to certain non-material terms in order to make FFP reporting as easy as possible for UEFA to discern.
The nature of conditions that will result in the lifting of sanctions means that the Club expects to be operating without sanction or restriction at the commencement of the 2015-16 season.

Importantly all non-financial sanctions agreed to would have been complied with as a natural course of the Club’s planned business operations.

Looks like Lampard will be coming in on a temporary loan from NYCFC.
Since City bought clubs in America and Australia I had a very small feeling City might do this to get around ffp but I didn't think they would do it with a big name to test the waters but it seems they have just dived in head first and thought fcuk the expense.

Personally I don't see where Lampard fits in apart from filling in the home grown quota (suppose I answered my own question there lol) but by all accounts he's in the Prem and European squads.

I see David Villa is going to City's other club Melbourne hearts b4 the MLS starts but what odds for him turning up at the Etihad at Christmas should City be struggling for goals due to Injuries.

I was surprised to see this but it can only be a good thing for City i guess. Your owners really do seem to have a bottomless pit dont they lol, buying all these clubs and players. :)

There was a lot of cash placed on Balotelli joining us over the past 24hrs, i'm glad Rodgers has quickly squashed that one!

On his day Balotelli can be a world beater but they are very few and far between, plus the guy's completely off his nut and lives with the fairy's.
I'm not surprised Rodgers quickly quashed the rumours lol.

I know he can do it on any given day...but the last thing we need right now is another nut case! lol

Glad you've finally realised I was right about Balotelli being more trouble than he's worth Slick. Now where's that Keema fella?

Not long now Punt by all accounts.

I'd like to think Rodgers would be able to sort him out but I just can't see it, and Milan selling him for that much tells it's own story.
I have a feeling if it comes off Balotelli could cost you dear this year with his petulance alone.

This is the season that you and I agree Slick. More trouble than it's worth is one way of putting it. An unnecessary risk is another way. Bad move for me

After selling Suarez i think Liverpool craved another big name. I've been waiting to put Falcao in my dream team but it turns out it's Balotelli.

Watch his assists go up to try and win us over.

Watch his assists go up to try and win us over.

That's crediting him with more intelligence that he actually has. He doesn't give a fuck about what you Liverpool fans think. All Balotelli cares about is Balotelli.

ODM's right, Balotelli only gives a shite about himself, if things don't go his way he starts to go missing or throwing himself to the floor every time he loses the ball, then the silly fouls begin which if Rodgers doesn't sub him after the first one you'll find yourselves down to 10 men pretty quickly.

He does have the ability to change a game but those performances are few and far between and usually when the team are playing well anyhow, he's not the sort of player that'll step upto the plate to try and grab the game by the scruff of the neck when you are struggling for a result.

I see Bellers is at tonight's match, it could give Liverpool a wee lift I suppose and if Rodgers has any sense he's send him straight into the City dressing room to cause chaos lol.

I'll tell you what you do have Punt, the best Penalty taker I've sever seen.

Yes, i know he can take a penalty. I wouldn't be surprised if Gerrard hands it over to him the next time he misses.

£16M is relatively cheap in todays market. I think we've got a bargain there, value for money, maybe. I'll be expecting problems and no loyalty, obviously, but at £16M a bargain.

I'm expecting you to beat us comfortably tonight btw.. You should go take City -1 @ 9/4 and -2 @ 6/1 and -3 @ 16/1
